Chaps,

I'm on Air flow meter number four within a period of a year!!! The original showed up as faulty a few months after I bought it as it was running terribly, so got it changed for another which has been replaced twice since. Symptom tends to be a gradual lack of torque/power over a period of weeks and then a sudden misfire at around 3500 revs. It seems ok when the engine is cold but awful once it warms up.

Having just had number four fitted it has been magic for two days regardless of temperature but dare I say I think it might be playing up again when the engine is warm weeping

Has anyone come across this or have any idea why they may be breaking down so quickly??Their not OE but sourced from a reputable supplier. I'd accept one new AFM may have a manufacturing fault but not 2 or 3! confused

Might be worth searching ebay for a used genuine one - lots of comments on here about poor quality new stuff failing prematurely or just not working correctly.

Please correct me if I am wrong, however excess air filter oil can be sucked up and sticks to the actual hot wire in the AFM. Use any oil sparingly.

"Reputable supplied" has no bearing on the fact, the market is flooded with Chinese replicas that look identical but without the Lucas label. Id have a look for that on the failed ones and see if you can find "lucas" anywhere.

Its a fair point but you would expect "as close to OE as is possible" would at least last a tad longer than that and would you not test the quailty at least?? Having said that if their supplier or someone in the chain changes it up that would blow that theory out the water. Probably should know better really the dizzy caps and arms I bought a while back look they came out a cracker. I bought OE stuff in the end and all was fine......jesus with a bit of prompting I just answered my own question rolleyes

I might look for a second hand OE one then, I think SS has one on ebay.

I have an OE one in good condition for sale. I also have the bigger 20AM upgrade if you like smile

Also check the wiring around the afm and tps. I had the same symptoms as you, turns out 1 or 2 wires had tiny holes/cracks and was leaking current or grounding at higher rpm

Its a precision part IMO (remember its electronic function) things are no better than with modern vehicles using air mass (white box st) get genuine or s/hand there are no alternatives its like Blitz states wink
