New Forum Member & TVR 280 S Help & Advice Please
Discussion
Hi!
New to the forum and TVR ownership so please go easy.
I have wanted a TVR for many years, usual story, a young lad (long time ago), was bowled over by the sound and the look as they seemed different and a bit special. But could no way afford one (and still can't).
So wind it all forward a fair few years and after owning a few various "classics" including a '74 MG Midget and a '67 MK3 Triumph Spitfire to sit alongside my daily drive I have finally got hold of a TVR. I still have and intend keeping my other classic which is a 1959 Land Rover Series 2, I have though added a Rover 3.9 V8 to that so it is not totally as left the factory LOL
My TVR is a 1988 280 S, I believe maybe called an S1? Needs work but will be a "rolling keep it on the road and useable project", as it came with 12 months MOT. It does look tired and needs work, first job is get some better tyres as the current ones are cracking on the sides and I never like to see that. I am no mechanic, some basic tinkering is OK but most has to be done by a local garage.
Help & Advice Please -
Some initial bits I would like to sort so help and advice would be appreciated Thumbs Up
Front Indicators - one is badly cracked with bits missing, I see you can get NOS for around £90 each or newly manufactured replacements for half that but two are recommended so you get a decent match up. Any hints or links to what would be my best route please?
Apologies, not sure what this is called - the sweeping plastic/purspex curve that goes over the various warning lights on the dash is a right mess as half of it is missing. Any ideas if these are available anywhere please?
Any help, advice, links etc is very much appreciated.
Thank you,
Andrew.

Hi and welcome to the most friendly knowledgeable forum.
any decent tyre will probably do, lots have gone for the Dunlop BluResponse others Toyo T1R (me) or Uniroyal Rainsport 3
Front indicators - I have a pair of Valeo equivalents I will be selling - now on the facebook site too
not sure why TVR fitted a smoked plastic curve over the tell-tale lights as they are difficult to see I have removed it.
Any questions just ask (or use the Goooogle search starting with Pistonheads TVR S .......)

I will look to get some pics of my S1 up in the morning.
Are the Amber indicators in good nick, no cracks or splits etc?
How much including delivery are you looking for please?
Thanks,

You are very welcome Andrew, and good luck and lots of fun with the car. Great forum this, lots of helpful people with loads of experience, knowledge and contacts, I couldnt have restored mine without them.
I am also an S1 owner so I guess we might have a good few contacts in the future.

Rear lights are Mk4 escort. Can I draw your attention to the links at the top of the forum page. It is very well worth you knowing what is already there. Well worth browsing those. Another keen member, Tim Rees, recently did a superb job of updating the Alternative Parts List, 10 pages full of our experience of where parts can be sourced and what alternative parts will do the job correctly. Invaluable.
Welcome to a fantastic (and underrated) car and best and most earn and friendly owners........in the world !
Just to make you car even more thrilling to own - the door handles are from a Ford Capri.
So every time you get in, you can feel like Bodie (and you must drive like him !!)
That does make AutoAndy Doyle though

I need a smoked lens as I've got one smoked and one standard in good condition
Barry - front or rear? I have an odd smoked front lens somewhere. It was from the first batch Norman produced. It might not be the right shade, but if it helps let me know and I'll try and find it. Tell you what, I'll swap it for your smoked rears; you know they'll look much better on my car Gassing Station | S Series | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
