Question for those of you who have replaced your HT leads. When ordering a set of leads for the 2.8i did you order a set for the Capri or the Granada? Are they the same anyway? Thanks in advance thumbup

I imagine the only difference could possibly be the length of the coil, or king, lead?

How about this guy, makes them to order so could presumably do you a "special" if required, to keep things tidy?

Wouldn't call them good value, but I use them too. Great product. Never had a Magnecor lead fail....ever. I treat them as fit & forget on cars that do the kind of mileage these do.

I suppose they're good value over the course of 20 years or so laugh

Magnecore quoted me over £20 for a king-lead earlier this year. In the end I got one for £3.50 (Rists cable) and put another £3.00 of parts in the boot to make up another if the cheap one ever fails. Magnecore, good value? I don't think so, and when I spoke to him, like a lot of "specialists", so far up his own backside he probably hasn't seen the sun for some time. Got to give them credit for building their reputation though, and no doubt if you want something special for a racer or very high performance vehicle then probably worth the money. But for a low mileage bog standard production engine, I don't think so.

I got a trusted local auto electrician to make a set up for me using the highest spec leads, the lengths and the end fittings I wanted. I have relocated the coil on the S1 from the side of the plenum chamber (OK on the Ford but it gets hotter there on an S1, partly because of air flow and party because the exhaust now goes forward) to the top of the passenger side footwell. Quite a few cars have done that. I also have the alternator mounted lower to improve access to the plenum chamber fittings and particularly the drivers side rocker cover. That marginally improves the ignition lead run to the front plug but also means a long plug cap becomes an issue.

The original leads were originally mass produced Granada I believe, but that was inevitably what was convenient for TVR. It was also inevitably a compromise. When renewing the leads we at least have the chance to reduce the compromise if we want.
