I'd set all of today aside to refit the Tasmin tank and so in preparation I ordered new fuel hose from ASH on Tuesday stressing the importance of guaranteed delivery this morning. I've used them in the past and been quite happy with their service. I specifically requested Parcel Force 48 Hour because I know how reliable it is. Despite assurances that that's how the order would be sent, the tocensoreders sent it by YODEL for delivery on or before 30th. YODEL! is there a worse delivery service? When I called ASH earlier they told me they don't use Parcel Force. So why didn't they say that on Tuesday? So the moral of the tale; YODEL are as bad as ever and I'm never buying from ASH again.grumpy Other hose suppliers are available etc....

To be honest Joe, I have found that in my experience here oop norf, Yodel have been one of the better parcel delivery services. It's usually the same young chap, always cheerful and courteous, reliable and has used common sense and initiative whenever I've not been at home. Im guessing that Yodel couriers are freelance so it's luck of the draw if you get a good one in your locality.

DPD I have also found to be very good.

ParcelForce can be variable, often posting a "Sorry we missed you" card through the letterbox without bothering to knock or ring the doorbell, then disappearing before you get a chance to collar them. You then have to treck miles to an out of town depot miles away to collect your parcel. I'm convinced that a lot of the time, they don't bother to load anything into their vans, they just go round sticking cards through doors and then run away.

But the very worst is that bunch of tocensoreders who managed to lose a 6ft long stainless steel exhaust for 31 days, even though my name & address in large bold type on an A4 sheet was firmly taped to the parcel throughout it's long and mysterious guaranteed next day delivery odyssey. They need blowing up with their own tri-nitrotoluene. frown

To sum up, yer pays yer money and yer takes yer chances.

D'ya feel lucky punk?

I've also ordered from ASH several times for some 70mm 2ply black silicone ducting, they listed it in stock everytime.. waited weeks for delivery then back & forth messaging.. "not in stock due this week" this carried on for a good 2 months+ & i never did get it rolleyes (hence the blooming blue air intake on my green dream)

Poor communication from them.

The Clue is in the name Glen. In the land of open spaces, fresh air, double garage's and chips N gravy, Yodelling is fine. Down in the Bronx the story is not so happy - all they do is clog up already over congested roads!

Did you ever see the sound of music Glen?

Oh yes I can still remember working on a Honda 750 in the hall just behind the front door when a postcard dropped through the letter box and landed at my feet:

"Tried to deliver but you were out" box was ticked. bd had evaporated by the time I got the door open shoot

A bit ago I did some commissioned research into courier services (after the privatisation of much of the PO operation). My comments then on Yodel were not good but ParcelForce had an excellent reputation. Hermes were a real problem in several ways.
How things change: the PO is not competitive except for small parcels (and then only just) and are way behind on technology. Hermes have got their act together in several ways, and will soon have sorted out their dodgy employment regime. They are extremely good on use of new technology and are now almost as reliable as the old PO (and a good deal cheaper). Yodel seem not to have progressed and seem to be losing market share. ParcelForce definitely seem to have lost the plot! They are behind on technology and are really only competitive for big items. DHL are proving pretty reliable and their new InPost service is encouraging.
One thing to watch, they all have different practices on what counts as UK mainland. They will charge extra (often a lot extra) for NI, the Scottish Isles, including the inner ones like Bute, the 'Highlands' and even in some cases for places like Inverness or even Dunoon!

Maybe I'm lucky with Parcel Force, on deliveries and when I've sent stuff, it's turned up when it's supposed to and on my delivery route anyway, the guy will leave the package in the porch or with a neighbour if I leave a note. The issue here is the bacensoredds at ASH accepted my order knowing I wanted it delivered guaranteed 48 hours so it would be here today knowing full well that they weren't going to send it Parcel Force as I requested and would be using a courier with a 2 or 3 day service. As I said bacensoredds ! IMHO

Yeah but no but... I really fancied that bird on the Sound of Music inspired Renault Megane Scenic advert:

"Oh! Things could be marvellous".....

Double garages? .... I wish! You have to go further north than Stockport for those.... Or Wilmslow or Alderley Edge. wink

So the YODEL guy finally turns up at 6.20pm. The bag is split and the short length of 16mm hose is missing. The guy doesn't speak English and just shrugs his shoulders. Unbelievable! would be the expected response, but we are talking about YODEL here, so totally believable.

We use loads and I have to say that I generally favour DPD, except when they work to early deadlines and miss them. By midday has occasionally resulted in the parcel being 'signed for' on time but then arriving an hour late, if you see what I mean!

As a further warning on this one. The ASH phone number turns out to be a premium rate number. So my calls chasing my missing delivery added up to an additional £7.95.

OK so they refunded the postage but that was only £4.00 (explains the crap delivery service!) so the calls aren't covered. Anyway, premium rates on a customer services line? Shabby. And, after two weeks there is still no acknowledgement or reply to my letter of complaint.

Buyer beware.

I have always had a good experience with ASH, but as they are not far away from where I live I tend to collect to avoid the postage.

Hope this is helpful to some of you.

I've just ordered a single length of hose off their eBay store (free p&p) using click and collect from Argos for a replacement operation following my Hethel mis-hap.

Parcel is sat in store awaiting collection. eBay price was cheaper than their website and no p&p to add either.
