Rear caliper brackets
Discussion
I've been asked for some info on the caliper brackets I used when I converted my S to rear disc brakes, so to add to the info in this thread and this one here's a bit more............
Originally I used a pair of brackets bought from a company called 3GE Components (they sold stuff for kit cars) but there website doesn't seem to work, gone out of business?
As purchased the yellow circled holes didn't exist...........
I think the bearing carrier (4 bolt holes are not equally spaced)) must be fitted in a different orientation on kit cars because these brackets put the caliper at "9 o'clock" rather than sat at the top as it is on a V8s
This worked but the bleed nipple was now at the bottom, not ideal !
I lived with this for a while then, needing to bleed the brakes one day, I looked to improve things. Turning the bracket over and drilling the "yellow hole" got the caliper near the top ( bleed nipple uppermost being the important bit) and still had the bracket secured by three bolts.
This I was quite happy with until I decided to move up to vented disc's where I decided to make some new brackets, leaving the old ones with the solid disc calipers as a "set".
a cardboard template was made using an old bracket as a guide and the brackets cut from 5mm mild steel plate. The brackets bolt onto the front of the bearing carrier in place of the drum brake backplate. They are a little thicker but I was happy that the bolts were still plenty long enough. A single 10mm flat washer between the bracket and caliper centralised the caliper over the disc. This may at a later date we brazed into place on the bracket, save the fiddle of putting it back in if the caliper has to come off.
In hindsight I should have made a slightly more durable template, cardboard one is now long gone

I bought a pair of rear caliper brackets from a company called MK Sportscars,
I think they were only about £25ish for the pair pretty much identical to Mike's second set he made.
Super helpful and very quick delivery ,I couldn't find them on their website but a quick call sorted it , they knew exactly what I wanted.
No link to them just very happy with their help.
Hope this helps ,
Cheers
