Car cover size ?
Discussion
Hi guys..
This is a question specific to a Classic Additions 'ultimate semi-fit car cover'... For a 1990 S3 2.9 (no spots).
I have bought one but can't try it for fit as my bonnet is in storage away from home during my ongoing full restoration.
I bought the cover by phone & suggested to them that I wanted a S1 size, based on the cars dimensions. They have sent me a S size based on their listing.
So being as I can't try it for size, do any of you guys have one of these covers, & most importantly... What is the size of your cover, & Does it fit nicely ??
Oh, the size is on a tab on it's storage bag...

I just got one other week in time for all this bad weather, got it from coverzone around £136
Stormforce 4 layer fleecelined & breathable cover for tvr s1-s4. Great fit even wing mirror pockets, straps underneath & can get optional padlock/alarm locking kit to add to it.
Your welcome to come down to Birmingham & try your cover on my S1 if you ever pass by this way.
Cheers

I bought a cover purely on a picture I saw in a certain magazine (no names) in the picture of the cover fitted like a glove and had the pockets for mirrors. When fitted, it looked just like the tarp that was already on it. Over £100, well gutted, could've got one from Argos for 1/4 that. Check what you're ordering. One gutted johnny boy

Hi guys...
Courtesy of Barry & his S2, I have been able to try the outdoor car cover as mentioned in my original posting.
Here is a photo of it fitted.
As you can see, it sure does cover the whole of the car.
I did not fasten the straps hence I guess why it still looks a bit saggy.
This is their 'S' size, as per their listing & recommend size for our Tvr S model cars.
I trust that is of benefit to those who are considering an outdoor car cover.
On a personal level I am happy with the quality of the cover, & of the material type too.
As for the waterproofing qualities of the cover, I can't comment on that as it will be around another 12mths before my car is back up & running.

Terry,
I bought a cover similar to that when I first bought my S1 in 2011.
It was supposedly weatherproof, and it was fairly waterproof. However, it didn't "breathe" very well and caused a lot of condensation inside and outside the car. But the worst thing was when the wind got up, it would cause the cover to billow and flap, and chafe the bodywork, even with the straps underneath as taut as possible. Not ideal.
I heard that one of the guys on here, Norman, had sold his S and had an old second-hand Leven tailored hood cover for sale. I bought it from him and was impressed by the fit, ease of use and protection it gave, even though it was "of an age".
So impressed that two years later, I bought a brand new one from Leven at a TVR Big Northern Gathering. Although they are not cheap, I think it is the best solution to protecting your S outside. In the wetter months, I keep a calcium chloride dehumidifier device inside the car when it's not being used, this keeps moisture and mould at bay. Obviously most of the car's bodywork is not covered, so regular washing and waxing is still required, and any bird droppungs need to be removed asap, but at least the car's important vulnerable bits are completely protected.
I have no connection with Leven/PPG other than as a very satisfied customer.

Agree with all what Glen says above and would also add my own experience.I bought a cover similar to that when I first bought my S1 in 2011.

Be very, very careful when using a complete cover over fibreglass.
Some covers supposedly 'breathe" but even when they do, moisture still gets underneath and onto the paintwork.
Besides stopping the cover from billowing in the wind and scuffing paintwork, any damp or moisture, which will inevitably get under the cover, can cause the paintwork on a fibreglass car to bloom.
This eventually surfaces as tiny white spots. Apparently this is where water has got under the paint surface.
I did a full body lift / chassis refurb and had the body sat outside under a cover initially. I ended up ditching the full body cover and just weather protected the hood. The cover, no matter how well i strapped it down, would eventually work a little loose and then chaff against the paintwork. I decided to ditch it before any damage was done.
Yes with no cover the car will have rain, snow, ice etc all over it during winter, but this time the wind becomes a friend, not an enemy, and naturally dries the car.
I wouldn't let a build up of snow sit on the car for too long, but anything else, and it should be fine.
Ah yes, the Leven top only cover.
I was informed of that hood cover soon after I bought my car, so I bought one.
It did a perfect job of preventing any cabin water ingress during my cars whole winter of standing outside. However I did find on removal that it had rubbed the paintwork a little in the area under its edges sewn seams (I'm sure it will buff out).
My own opinion of the Leven cover, is that its great for around home use as a standing cover, especially as its heavy weight means that it won't blow away that's for sure. But it also means that in the cold winter it becomes very stiff, & that's why I think it rubs.
Plus although I haven't done away away from home tours yet, I don't think I will be taking it with us, due to its weight & lack of ease to fold to a small size. If a lightweight summer tent type material version could be made along the same design, this could be a '2min to attach' cover for those comfort breaks etc.
Going back to my purchased full cover, I am going to make contact with the company, & show them my photos of it fitted to an 'S' !
I'll report back anything useful gained...

I have a "top only" lightweight cover from Cover Systems
At Le Mans Classic this year I found it easier to throw this over, rather than fit the panels, to keep as much dust as possible out of the car while parked at the campsite !
I definitely think I will get my upholsterer mate to make me a lightweight quick cover cap, once I'm on the road in my S.
Oh...
I have been in touch with Classic Additions about the size of my Ultimate outdoor full cover. They have agreed with me that size S is to big for our TVR S models !
And they are going to replace it foc including collection/delivery, with the next size down, that being size S1.
So let me repeat, the service I have experienced from Classic Additions has (to date) been excellent.
I do take onboard all general comments about fitting any make full cover for a long period of time (the car being stored outside in all weathers), and the risks associated with standing moisture or water that could attack the paintwork, especially on a GRP car !
In my case I will be regularly removing the cover to continue my resto/conversion project. That's once the spring arrives. Also when I need my garage to reassemble my resprayed Panther project.

Hello everyone - Happy Christmas
We have a cover- not the full car cover , as that was scuffing the paintwork on the bonnet, so got a 1/2 one from Amazon around £50 just under, originally we kept it in the boot for days out, to put over if it rains(targa panels not100% waterproof). It works perfectly ok.would have like the TVR in the workshop garage but we still got another car in bits in there,
I did see on the main Tvr events - Burghley house the 1st venue in April for get together, what was the date for the Stoneleigh Park get together please
Cheers Anne &Rick

but we do still have a booking for TVRs at the same field at Stoneleigh on the 1st of May.
Unofficial as yet, I'll put it on the events list when it's confirmed.
