I was looking at that advert this morning, looks tidy, as always it will very interesting to see how high the bidding goes - if it goes to the end.
You would think it was not a great time of year to be selling, although it would make a great Christmas present and it is red!
So we are looking for a new owner to have white hair and a long white beard! They dont call me greymrj for nothing you know!!;)You would think it was not a great time of year to be selling, although it would make a great Christmas present and it is red!
Does look tidy doesnt it, you are right, they do seem to be snapped up before the end of the auction period which is a good sign.
It's mine and it did sell, but...
The winning bidder (who is probably lurking on here) came down to conclude the deal. Somehow there was a problem transferring the money to my account and there was apparently a delay whilst his bank sorted it out. More than once he suggested there needed to be a degree of trust and more than once I was clear the car was going nowhere until the money was transferred. That didn't happen and 4 hours later I took him back to the station.
He then decided a day later that he couldn't afford the cost of another rail ticket to come back down and he declined my offer to cover this or the cost of transporting the car to him. He had also borrowed my landline phone to call his bank when he was here, but there is no record of that call being made in my call log. At first I thought it was human error, but now I'm not sure that he wasn't trying to get the car without the funds going through. If it is the latter then I have nothing but contempt for the winning bidder. A complete and utter time waster and the car will now go into storage over the winter and I'll try again next spring.
Not sure how much satisfaction I'll get from Ebay, but at least others contemplating selling their S might find this information useful.

Absolute pain when that happens, I sympathise with you. As a regular seller on ebay I have to say that pillocks like that are very much the minority but they are certainly out there. It does sound like this might have been a try on. Absolutely no way I would part with anything of any value without seeing the money first.
One tip is to make it clear on your listing that you will insist on a non returnable deposit by paypal within 24 hours of sale or you will relist, I would ask £250 on a car. If they dont follow up or mess you about and delay then keep the deposit. I have done once and ebay backed me up. The main purpose of course is that it deters theft partly because they wouldnt want to pay a deposit and partly because paypal accounts are directly traceable. It is very much in your interests to demand that anybody bidding MUST have a paypal account to get that trace.
Get in contact with ebay, there is a provision within your sales listing to refer the matter to them as the buyer hasnt paid. They WILL record that against the account holder and if it happens 3 times (3 strikes rule!) they WILL remove that account completely. Seen it a couple of times and they have acted.
If they have evidence that the buyer may have tried to steal other cars by this method then ebay do have a dedicated team working with the Police to tackle fraud. I was involved in trapping one guy who they succeeded in arresting fraudulent selling of exercise rowing machines.
Better luck next time.

Perhaps I'm a bit naive here but lets say it was a scam, what does this guy then do with your car?
"Cloning" an S series can't be as easy as say a Fiesta or whatever where there are plenty of scrappers to get fake ID from?
Break it for spares? Too much like hard work?
Sell it again quick before he's rumbled?
Simple solution to this.... Never sell your S

How did you know his name was Justin?
Just a wild guess, Glen! Maybe a few on here remember me as I put together a TVR group buy for the hydraulic car ramps whilst I had the Chim and was a member of the Hants TVRCC?
Having been on the even 'darker' side (Pork) for a few years maybe it's time to return to the best of British? So, having exchanged e-mails with 'foot2' we will see if I'm back in TVRland in 2017???
Merry Christmas!

Ah, I see
Well, yknot indeed? It's nice to welcome back any lost boys who have seen the error of their ways . Chimps and Pork? Least said the better.
If this transaction goes smoothly, I'm sure you won't regret it once you've experienced the Joy of S.
But as for poor foot2firewall and his "Lots of trouble, usually serious" Elise S2, I feel he will be forever lost in Neverland, tormented by that naughty Tinkerbell.
