Great work chaps.

It's really fabulous that you are helping.

I'll show the airfield boys at the weekend, it'll really help their morale.

Yes more proof the S Owners are the very best !

Tally Ho !

Richard, I thought it was more to do with the failings inherent in the National Lottery Scheme withholding the funding of your fast heavy jet pilot's licence course?
In my view, this was the only weakness in your plan.

ETA: It's still not too late, I remain on standby with the flask and sandwiches available at a moment's notice. Just say the word!
I didn't class that as a weakness, just a hurdle. Same as the £25k I'd need to fill the tanks.

I've got a runway up the road, here. I think it'd be a stretch to try and bring a Vulcan down on it, but at one end is the sea, and water's soft and squishy, so if I overshoot I won't damage anything. I'll just get my wife to stop traffic on the road into Lee On Solent and I'll be sorted.

Vulcans have reverse thrust, right?

Glen,

Guess what?

I was looking at our local newspaper, The Stratford Herald, over lunch. As as I hungrily read the extensive coverage about the airfield, something caught my eye.

And there it was, a beautifully written missive form your good self, staring back at me in black and white. woohoo

I'll try to remember to bring you a copy for the S Club Activist Division archives.

Proud to know you, Soldier !

PS - I wasn't sure at first it was you as it was signed G Robinson, not Gelne, or Elgene or Gelen biggrin

Neeege, it's gratifying to see they have published so quickly.

I have also had a reply from Mr. Nadhim Zahawi, the MP for Stratford, who told me that although Wellesbourne is in Jeremy Wright's constituency, he intended to join with his honourable colleague on this matter, as, to quote his words: "We are stronger together".

soapbox C'mon you lot, get emailing Jeremy asap, time is running out.
Every little helps as they say!

Regards,
Nelge.

Fuel is a good idea, but not sure you'd need that much, unless you intend to have a bit of a scenic 4000 mile flight or want to spend a while practising whilst airborne.

Reverse thrust? scratchchin

Err... Um... I'm not sure Richard. I know they are fitted with massive airbrake/ lift spoilers, and also very big braking parachutes, as well as Maxaret braking systems, but I can't remember seeing reverse thrust being used.

However, I did witness a Vulcan B Mk.1 landing successfully ( it was pretty marginal yikes ) ) at a small grass airfield in Buckinghamshire back in 1966? It was quite a feat of airmanship by the pilot to deliver this big white bird ( aka the tin triangle rolleyes ) at the end of it's flying service so that us fledgling aircraft technicians could gain experience working on its' systems and structures.

Be rude not to take a scenic tour over Port Stanley first.

Oh I'm aware of the massive airbrakes etc, and the chute. But I just need to know if I can reverse it, for reasons completely unrelated to the chance of overshooting into the Solent. Unless it floats too?

Also, I need to measure the legs on it. If they're tall enough, I'll get away with only removing three fence panels at the end of the runway. Saves time, see? I'll just have to practice my aim, but there have been roadworks near my house for a couple of weeks and some of the cones are pretty close together, so I reckon I've had adequate training on that front.

Air brakes & a chute... Now that'll give better brakes on the S. Add it to the wiki ?

I presume it is "just" the cafe, museum etc. along Loxley Lane that are at risk, not the large newer warehouse sized buildings in the foreground?

I think so Mike.

The museum, flying schools, Heli air and the glorious cafe seem to have been the primary target of the developers.

Amazing how quickly the district council have leapt into action.

Not breakfast, but food for thought...

http://www.audlem.org/newsroom/sunday-times-articl...

It's an article from 2013, but it seems not much has changed frown

Note Stratford MP Mr Zahawi's comment.
This is the real problem that needs addressing nationwide.
