This is where I'm going with the bonnet hinge, the hinges are early ford Ka boot hinges and have some assistance from gas springs, I've left these out video of the for reasons of sanity. This gives an 80deg opening angle and lifts the bonnet by some 40mm at around 60deg opening.
Do you have any problems keeping the two sides in sync?

Perhaps take a look a the bonnet hinges from a Rover 75 they are similar design to your drop box have strut assist and hold up the fairly large steel bonnet of the 75 without a problem .............................................. just a suggestion of course.

Of course a set would be easy to obtain froma breakrs too.

Hi,Rover 75 is a straightforward pivot hinge, so no improvement over the TVR hinge. The Ka unit is kinematic and has gas spring assist, I just left them out of the 3D model.

The Ford ones have stuts too, each hinge has ball sockets to attach a mini strut. The 75 bonnet is a lightweight in comparrison to the S clamshell.

As there is a 75 in the drive as well, I may have a looky look at them too.

OK just a thought. Have never had the reason to study the 75's bonnet never though we swapped one due to a huge patch of lacquer lift. Noticed that the bonnet was not particularly light though.

Hi Mike. I hung the lights and some stainless mesh on there as well, so just paint to add, don't have rubber bumpers on now

Wow, just 33kgs, so why can't I pick it up (cause I'm a bit of a wimp i guess)
Thanks so much for that, now i can calculate my spring force.

Starting on the hinge brkts now.

the basic parts.

The frame started, close observers will notice the improvement in my welding.

A small selection of my clamps.....

Nearly there, I may cut out the centre of the cross bar after everything is welded in place.

Be stronger with it left on, no chance of bending down at the ends

True, but the bonnet only weighs 33Kgs so its not really an issue. I'll put it trough cosmos and see what the bend is. Or just stand on it and see what happens.

Not it's static weight but the weight from bumps, bouncing and driving, could be up to 5 times it's load

It is also the windage forces when open in a breeze or side of the road. Two gas struts will help but I'd also try to incorporate some mid point opening stop.
