1985-1987 jelly mould 2.8 Granada/Scorpios can be the rare 2.8efi. This is easily identified by the small alloy cover plate on the throttle body. It says electronic fuel injection. Most of these cars also sported those desirable alloy rocker covers. And the 2.8efi was the only 2.8 that had factory unleaded heads as standard.
Is it a better/unrated engine ?
No, not really, not in standard form anyway, especially with the very early type of eeciv ecu, which turned out to be not much better than the mfi. Although the induction hardware breathes well, so with some basic engine tuning & a good independent mappable ecu, good results can be achieved.
I know, I have done it !
I believe only around 800 of those efi cars were made.

I have very occasionally seen the 2.8 efi in Sierra XR4x4 form where it's often confused at first glance with the 2.9 - very rare though as you say. Again it still has siamessed exhaust ports so is still missing a pair of manifold branches.
