V8S Seats and interior

Hi, Looking for a little direction, I managed to get hold of a pretty good V8S earlier this year, Lots of mechanical works as well as a body off chassis rebuild in the past, it is in need of a little cosmetic work.

The interior leather is ok but has seen better days I'm thinking about a re-trim next year.
At some point in the cars history the original seats have been replaced with Chimera ones.

Do I get these recovered or do I try to locate some original seats and have them re-covered?

Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas?

I have a similar dilemma, I have a Chimaera that I've fitted mx5 seats in. I'd like them to be a better match but the thought of spending £1k or so to re trim none standard seats seems a bit out. Personally I think the Chimaera seats are awful so I'd not recommend spending any money on them. Live with it for a while and see how you feel. For comfort I'd recommend the mx5 mk2.5 seats but they may look a little modern.

There's not much to choose between the Chim & S seats so unless you're an originality buff you might as well stick with the Chim ones. Later Chims were fitted with Cerbera seats which were much more comfortable than the others but they are very rare and very expensive.

Don't disagree (at least, for the early ones) but the V8S seats are similarly awful, so I'd consider it a waste of money reverting to those.

The MX5 seats are very comfortable. I had a pair in a Tasmin for a while. There's a guy selling a pair on Farcebook at the moment LINK.

..... and the MX5 seats are (quite) easy to recover yourself.
I did this in the summer with some nice new leather covers from il motorsoprts /mx5parts.co.uk.
At the same time, you can perform the infamous "foamectomy".

After which they will be a lot less comfortable

Is the interior good enough for a re-dye. The stuff from furniture Clinic works really well. And the carpet dye is good too for a refresh.

There's some pics of the ones I installed in the Chimaera here if you do a search you'll probably find the earlier ones in various TVRs I think all the mk1, mk2 and 2.5 ones fit without modifications (aside from cutting down the seat runners) I've seen posts that the later ones may be too tall.

I have fitted Lotus Elise seats in my S1

Cerbera seats in my old V8S.....



Amazingly comfortable with their inflatable lumbar support pads and perfect for long distance touring.

They bolt straight in. The main drawback is the cost and if you're over 5' 10" they will probably sit a bit too high in the car otherwise they are brilliant.

Those seats are very nice but new MX seat covers can't cost nearly a grand can they? Or do you mean re-trimming a pair of MX5 seats in leather?

I was just looking at the il motorsports /mx5parts.co.uk link mentioned earlier. Leather seat covers are pretty pricey and you would have to fit them and possibly sort foam issues. Cheaper I agree than the ones I suggested,........but they are nice aren't they?

Which model are they? Are they comfortable and did you go for the heated option.

Looking at the "Challenger" the total for leather facings + headrests + heating pads + runners + delivery would be £1452 which is about what you'd have to pay to have your old S seats retrimmed.

The "Dino" ones look pretty cool. More expensive though.
