Hi everyone, just got my pistonheads monthly newsletter and saw the thread on alloy indicator stalks. A bloke called Karl cordwell from west yorks region does loads of ally bits for the S series. I know he definitely does gear knobs and interior trim and he may do indicator stalks. I read on the wedge forum that they were after his e mail address so you can try there.
Good luck

I know him, didn't realise he did anything for the S yet though, I know he was talking about it. Havent seen him for a few months though. I will probably see him on Thursday night at our Xmas doo so I will ask about it then.

I've heard the British Heart Foundation charity shops are doing a new line in S indicator stalks. You can't blame Leven for not doing something for a market thats not there and in my mind half a dozen owners on PH isn't a market, and anyway lets face it the S stalks are bloody involved compared to those in the later cars (ie horn push) my guess is that not many S owners would want to dig that deep.

Don't me for being stoopid, as I have less engineering knowledge than you could write on an indicator stalk, but......

My S has a horn push button in the middle, complete with wires that go nowhere (somewhere along the steering column I believe). I also understand that most other Ss have this. Could this not solve the stalk-horn push problem, or am I missing something??

I think you are correct Kieran, I'm fairly sure LeeBee has a Griff Centre horn push fitted, so manufacturing a normal stalk for that side would be OK. Not sure about the screen wash side though, but it wouldn't take much to fit a push button onto the dash some where for that. I guess the big problem is that in order for them to sell you these normal stalks, they would have to expect you to mod the car. Not too appealing for most owners, I think.

Big question I would like to ask is, does another make of column controls fit? Does the Griff or Chim one fit, if so, what car is it from? I would love to change mine completely, as I hate that little black pod.

Griff / Chim are Vauxhaul IIRC... S is Escort Mk3 (or transit in some rare cases)...

Surely the main factor involved would be the diameter of the column? Is the diameter the same on the Griff & Chim, I wonder.

Connectors may have an effect...

True. It would mean some re-routing and re-wiring of the connectors, but then at least you could buy the Leven bits for it.

Just received a mail back from Karl Cordwell. I'm sure he wont mind me posting this here:

The likely hood is that I will be doing some things for the S series
It is just a matter of working out what things are off and what I think will
sell.
The gear knobs and handbrake levers will fit anyway
Not sure what the steering column is off although somebody has said it is
same as my seac but I think not
Good possiblibity of doing something with the air vents - along the lines of
tuscan style alloy and gold. I believe they are old marina items.
I already do indicator stalks for the late wedges which are the ford short
style, also do indicators stalks for griff/chim as well as steering column
adjusters but they are a vauxhall unit.
So if your wife has got a corsa I have the ideal christmas pressie.
Let me know what you think, if you get round to discussing with other S
owners let me know the outcome.
p.s. just running some replacement centre caps off for the S, as they are
virtually impossible to get.
They will be alloy/polished and andoised with the TVR log.

Looks like we should get together some specs for him and a show of interest and see what he can come up with.

Its just as well you posted this as Karl didn't make it to the Xmas doo. He was going to use my S to develop some bits but hadn't got back to me in ages so I thought he'd given up the idea. I will ring him as I now have his number and try to discuss it with him.

I am interested. As I`ve been dead busy laying sodding laminate flooring over the last week I haven't had much time for anything else or I would have emailed you!
