Ive just rung around 20 classic car insurers and best by along way are classic line (01455 639 000). I was told be a rival company that classic line are giving the best quotes on TVRs for some reason at the moment.
Anyway i was quoted £232 on a 1,500 mile policy and £269 on a 3,300 mile. Am 37 no convictions blah blah...car is garaged cat 1 etc. Might be worth a call, next best was carole nash. Happy hunting and if anyone has got a better quote drop a line here although i think ive covered all the major insurers. Best regards Mark

I insured thru Classic Line last month. They came in at about £450 for 5000 miles parked on the street at the birds place in Exeter (all alarmed etc ...). It would have cost a grand parked in W4 ! It's more fun driving down that neck of the woods anyway ...

I've gone through Classicline and I'm paying £400 garaged in W1. Only one year no claims though. Touch wood - I haven't had to claim yet and that is often when you find out how good an insurance company is!

Renewed my policy on Monday with Classic Line again. £273 comp, protected bonus on 3000 miles, cheaper than last year by £30!(better than nothing!!)

Did the biz with Classicline on Monday as well. They were by far the cheapest for me, and besides the TVRCC approved insurance company (no names) did little other than irritate me recently when I needed them to be a weeny bit flexible, so it was an easy decision.

Have had joy with sunninghill in the past; good company, but uncompetitive this year for me.

When I enquired about classic policies years back they told me I couldn't use/carry on my NCB and I'd effectively lose it for good after 12 months. Is that still the case?

Same here but your ncb should be good for 2 years rather than 1. Also not keeping the car in a garage and commuting seemed to be an issue.

Classic car policies are intended to be used for second cars. To qualify you will often be asked to confirm your main car - for which the NCB is then used and thereby retained.

Insuring any car by being economical with the truth is IMHO foolhardy, as in the event of a major claim all these things will be checked again.

I paid £835 with Norwich Union Direct through Bid4MyBusiness but that is for 15,000 miles p.a. including business use and I only have 2 years NCB, so I reckon that the figure would probably be a lot lower with limited non-business mileage and a full NCB.

It appears that NU do have an official TVR scheme, so that might be worth checking out.

To back up Richard and NU direct I paid £529 fully comp with a 10,000m per year limit, back in March. Parked on drive and without any alarm (is that asking for trouble?) Coming straight off 8 years company car insurance they gave me 4 years NCB and it also includes C/car.

Deal with NCB is that it can only be applied to one car. Seeing as my 's' is my only car, there's no snags. The NCB can be applied to it in the same way as any other car insurance policy....limited mileage or otherwise.

Peart gave me £347. Drivers 46 & 42. No garage, 6,000miles Second car but took into consideration full NCB from main car - very helpful gave me full. Classic Line wouldn't even give me a quote - no garage!

Am i going to be ok in my situation

main car is a company car,the "s" (when i eventually get it) will be used as a second car,but it is actually my only car.
Obviously i've got no NCB so would i be better of insuring it as if it was my Daily driver?

Cheers everybody

Plan to use classic insurance next year but 3000 miles pa limit seems way to low for myself and i only use the car at weekends and have done 2500 miles in 6 months so 5 - 6,000 might be more realistic for myself.

My S is a second car - well sort of - the missus and I share a car but she insures it as i didn't want her on my insurance...does this count and can i use classic car ins for a year and then go back to normal and use my full ncb and keep alternating so that i don't lose my ncb?

I guess it depends on how you company insure their cars. My company insures my company car in my name, therefore I gave the insurance company a call and they provided me a copy of my no claims (stating it was in use on my company car). If your company does a blanket insurance policy then it might be different.

Classic line insured me (I'm 28) for £290 fully comp, 3000 miles, they were also interested in what company car I drive and how many miles a year I do. I drive a Golf V5 and do about 30,000 miles a year, they classed this as a performance car which also knocked the price down !! funnily enough the price also dropped a bit more when I asked to put my wife on the insurance (I don't think that she will ever drive it though ) !!
