After an erratic couple of years my fuel gauge is now completely useless. No matter how much fuel I have in the tank, it tells me it's empty. Initially I thought it was the sender unit in the tank, but when I tested the connections on the back of the gauge the multimeter showed a 12v terminal (presumably power in), a 0v terminal (presumably the earth side) and a 6.5v terminal (presumably the return from the sender unit). Does anybody know whether these readings are normal (indicating a gauge problem) or abnormal (indicating a sneder problem). I don't really mind what it is as long as I don't replace the wrong part!

hi there it sounds like your sender is ok try linking out the terminal with 6.5 volts on it to earth and then to 12 volts if the gauge doesnt move then its stuffed(make sure you disconnect the wire from sender first)
if you are in the east anglia area i have got a spare fuel gauge you could try before you go out and buy a new 1 as it could be costly ,or you could try a gauge repair company like speedycables who will test your old gauge and repair it if its up the creek
mail me back if you need it and good luck
