Discussion
Hi,
Went to see an S3 today and I thought I'd ask for opinions on time and cost involved here.
It is a '91 S3
+ 45k on the clock.
+ Outside is neat
+ Drove well.
+ Chassis looked good
+ Owner asking 6k ono.
+ no signs of leakage
+ roof looks new
+ new alloys (last were stolen)
But:
- it was last taxed 18 months ago
- last service over 2 years ago
- no MOT
- VERY shabby interior - cobwebs and all! Wood is totally pealed both on the doors and dash and will need total replacement.
- one of the windows doesn't work
- one clip for the roof missing
- alarm doesn't work and immobiliser removed.
Basically, it has full service history up to about 5 years ago but doesn't look like it has had any TLC since then. Its been sitting for the last 18 months doing nowt.
This will be my first TVR. I *think* it might be too much to do myself so will need a dealer and if that lot is going to come in over £1500 then I think buying a cleaner example in the first place would suit me better.

Pies said: Just checked "Sprint" there's an "S3" in there mot till April 04 extras etc
Price £6k
I think the one your looking at might be a bit pricey.
P.S Rubber tends to rot if left standing so this could be a problem with hoses that has not shown up yet.
I agree with Pies - walk away a better one will turn up soon.
podie, i bought the first one i saw and its a belter. . . and i knew buggerall about them then! Page 3, If the car seriously hasn't been turned over for that long i would walk away at that price, there are loads advertised at 6-7k , keep looking . . . unless you can get him down to 4.5K then might be worth the risk.
Personally i'd rather pay more for a mint car than one that needs work and will probably cost you far more in the long run. Good luck, Mark

Sounds too pricey for that condition, but difficult to tell without a good look at it and its history file. You need to think about whether its a 2nd car or your only one.. If a 2nd and you have the time and space you can fix the interior, but its going to take time and you may miss a fair bit of the summer when you really want to be driving it.
For that money I think you may well find a better one elsewhere..
