You can take things too far (IMHO) with CD players/MP3/Mini disc/whatever. I upgraded my speakers and head unit before Le Mans, as i wanted the option of music for the long journey down/back.

After much deliberation i decided that as the S has classic styling the system should be simple in design with the least amount of flashing lights/gismos as possible, but be powerful enough to hear with the roof down.

Ended up with a fairly basic £150 Alpine single CD head unit (generally accepted as one of the best makers of audio equipment) which is simple, black and the green buttons/display matches the dials. It has an output of 45 watts per channel.

The speakers are pioneer, 130watt fronts and 180watt rears £100.

Needless to say the roof was off for most of the journey but when required i could listen to music no problem at all.

It seems a bit of a waste to spend much more than this, as general wind/exhaust/road/mechanical noise will always be audible over any exotic system.

In any case none of us realy needs a sterio in an S, it makes its own music. Turn it up!!

Lets face it, you only play the CD when you are washing the car.
With a sports exhaust which is a music all of its own, you can't hear any radio/music over 40mph so why bother.
