I am thinking of increasing the spring rates on my S2 to stiffen the ride up to help limit bottoming out. I dont want to simply increase the ride height as I feel this will spoil the 'poise' of the car. As a side effect the handling of the car will also be improved. What i need to know is what sort of spring rates have people found to be the best? I have fairly new Redline shocks which are adjustable in both height and dampening.

I've had a bit of a look back through the S forum and seen figures around the 400 lbs front and 300 lbs rear area, but I`m unsure if this is too stiff/not stiff enough.

Thanks for any help.

Roy.

well I'm going to start out at 600 pounds / inch, but I'm getting dampers with a shorter stroke than standard so the springs don't come loose on full droop. with the redlines I assume you'll get dampers with a standard open length in which case you'll have this loose spring problem which is an MOT fail of course. If you can't get them rebuilt with a shorter stroke then be careful how stiff you go.
The other thing is that the redlines are bump and rebound adjust on one adjuster, so if you go stiff spring route you'll get a very harsh ride (the AVOs are the same so i never go above 400 ish pounds on those for this very reason) - you'll need sufficient rebound to control the extending spring, but because the bump and rebound are tied together on one adjuster you can't help but increase the bump also... so watch how far you go on the springs if you want any sort of compliance. If you're sourcing through RT Racing have a word with him .. he's bound to have a set-up that works well 'cos he selss alot of these dampers so talk it over and see what you can come up with.

I went the shorter stroke route too, but as an alternative - tender springs can be used to cure this.

I got my Redlines from RT and he fitted them and set them up. I think having a chat with Richard is the best way to go then.

Agreed, although I have since tightened mine at all the corners by about three turns.
