I've just done a volume test on my "quiter than standard exhaust" - it peaked at 105dB at 4000ish revs. The exhaust (mild steel) was on the car when I bought it a couple of months back, it was made by Auto Torque according to a sticker under the bonnet. Anyone else ever heard of them? I was thinking of going for a Peninsula sports exhaust when this one gives up the ghost.

ordered a new exhaust from peninsula today.its the same style as the v8s 'ie split tail pipes has anyone got one on thier s3 and what do they sound like.........cheers
I have the same system on mine and love it for blasting around town/country, on long motorway journeys it gets a bit 'droney' though.
If I spot the po-lice I just hang back and try not to draw too much attention just in case. I imagine if I got stopped I'd say it was supplied by a TVR main dealer and therefore assume it's legal. :-)

as far as i know theres no exhaust noise limit on cars. Otherwise no TVR would get an MOT!
Actually there is. It is part of the SVA requirements although it is not tested on the MOT. However it is an offence to drive a car that is over the limit (the limit is interestingly enough as simple as a policeman's interpretation) and driver's can get prosecuted or more usually ask to quieten the exhaust.
The police are becoming quite sensitive to this and have started to pull cars. Not TVRs but usually those nasty Jap things but I can see it only being a question of time.
