Found a pair of Nice S2's for decent money, but the bank has delayed my loan application and now I have missed them. As my budget is so limited, I think I may have to abandon my search soon as all I seem to get are basket cases.

The S1s all seem a bit too old, as I need somthing I can use every day for commuting.

Unfortunately I need to take a loan to get one and as soon as I take the loan, then I start paying interest, so it wouldn't be too good to take a loan and wait 6 months before getting one. Also need to get a car ASAP as my Polo goes back at the end of the month.

So it's pretty much S or shopping trolly in the next 2 weeks.

You’ll have to pay the loan back at some time so you may as well take it now, that or put down a deposit on an S if you find the right one.

Sorry to hear about the problem with the bank Chris, especially when you'd found a couple of likely S's.

However, I think that when you're buying a S there's always a chance you'll be in for quite a wait (particular if you're after a particular colour etc.), and possibly quite a bit of travel, since there's not exactly a boundless supply, but do stick in there. You'll be glad you did when the right S turns up and you're at the wheel of your new P&J.

As well as the PH S series ads, here're a few other sites you could keep on eye on:

Carsource (this is where I found mine)
My TVR
TVR Ads
TVR Webmart

Good luck with the search!

Budget is under £6000 really, although I could stretch a tiny bit. Cheap as possible really. the ones I was looking at were £5500 is. Tehn it would be £1100 for insurance and £400 for alarm.

Why don't you try some other lenders, for instance, Cahoot.com. Once you are approved for the loan they don't start charging you interest until you lift the money to pay for the car. Also their interest rate is really good. This is the approach I used, the other benefit is you can get approval for the maximum you need but you will only pay interest on the amount you actually pay for the car in the end.

I used this when buying by S2. Im sure there are others that will work the same way.

Means you are sure about having the money available when you need it (It does take 2-3 days to transfer the money to an account from which you can lift it)

One more bit of advice, don't worry a car will come up, I used Rob Ingleby from findasportscar.co.uk to inspect the car, this was well worth the fee for peace of mind.

Bad luck mate - but now you've had the loan approved, you should be able to get one straight away next time one comes up. Better still, agree with the bank the loan, but ask them to hold until you need it, then you pay no interest until then.

Even better - start paying what you would have paid to the bank into a separate 'TVR' account.
1. you will save the monthly interest
2. when you find your car, the deposit is sorted
3. you will have saved therefore can take a smaller loan or will have spare dosh
4. you will get used to the payments - and if they are too much of a stretch, you found out before you were stuck with a car!

I know you want the car for the good weather, but as time passes, they will come down in price. If you are stretching all you can, a better quality car is worth waiting for... buy a crap car now, and you will soon be off the road saving up to get it repaired (and still paying your monthly repayments), but get the right one and you will have many summers of pleasure. It doesn't make you feel any better now when you're itching to go, but it's better in the long run.

(Oh my God, I sound just like my dad - my wife is right: I am turning into him - next I'll be trading mine in for an MGB!)

No guys, the bank is just screwing around with my account, as I'm trying to transfer my account to a new branch, due to bad service at my last one. Now it seems that as my personal advisor has left the rest of the staff at the new one are just as bad as at the last. So they won't authorise a loan until the transfer is through and they can't be bothered to get the transfer through anytime soon. Also as I am overdrawn for this month I can't transfer my account to a different bank.

Have you had an insurance quote yet as this seems v. expensive. I pay less than £400 per year fully comp. used every day, no alarm or garage, aged 35. There is a very nice S2 for sale at a dealer in Boroughbridge (N Yorks) feel free to e-mail me for details.

I did see a couple advertised, but I wasn't sure what your budget was at that point.

Hope one of them works out!
