The further woes of alarm insurance....
Discussion
Good news: bought an S2
Bad News: have to change my name
Good news: pick it up on Friday
Bad news: it has no alarm fitted
is there any insurance that you can get for a few days (probably just one evening, in fact) to cover the car on my south west london street without alarm or immobiliser? I will get one fitted on Saturday but I am thinking that sods law would dictate that the one day it sits uninsured is the one day some theiving bu99er will lift it!
Also what sort of Alarms are the best for this inherantly unsecure car?

I was in the same situation as you when I bought an alarmless Griff.
I took it straight to the alarm installers where it stayed overnight in thir locked premises. Alarm fitted next morning and did not have to leave the car without an alarm in the street.
In terms of alarm choice, most seem to go for a Meta M99T(sp??) which is Thatcham Cat 1 and can be installed with a microwave sensor which enables you to leave the roof off with the alarm on.
Good Luck!

As for the alarm/immob, just had Meta M99T fitted with microwave- £300, gave him extra cause door contacts were no good and lots of shoddy(TVR) wiring. Have aslo had central locking fitted though alarm, cost £100. My alarm was an upgrade, already had immobilizer fitted. Took him two days to rip out old alarm and fit new one, and repair wiring as neccesary. Bet he wish he never bothered!
Just changed my insurance over to Classic Line. On the proposal form they had put "NO" to Alarm Immobiliser fitted, I phoned to say "YES" I had it all fitted , Cat 2 etc and they said it made no difference - funny old world!!
My S2 is garaged every night, perhaps that's the difference.
