Discussion
OK - Here is my second contentious topic (After resurrecting the Swirl/Expansion quandry...)
- just got my S2
Took it for a spin on some country roads last night and was a little disconcerted by the lack of illumination.
Brings me to the sticky subject of foglamps.
Do they look naff?
are they a bit Paul Calf?
'Where did ya get yer foglamps?'
'Halfords'
It's either that, or keeping my country lane driving to daytime only!

Foglamps are (or certainly should be) designed to provide a short, low and wide beam to cut under fog and illuminate the sides of the road. Therefore, they'll not really help much in terms or normal low beam driving. You'd be far better of upgrading the existing headlight bulbs to something like the Philips VisionPlus (from somewhere like Powerbulbs) - these give a marked improvement with minimal effort!
If you want to fit auxillary lights you should go for spotlights, rather than fog lamps, which are designed to give a long narrow beam. Although these can only be used in conjunction with the main beam, they're useful for fast nighttime driving.
Of course, as with all these after-market products, there're good ones and bad ones, so it'd be worth trying to find some product tests if you can.

I think i mean Spotlights not Foglamps - or are they known as 'driving lamps'??
Driving lamps... intensity is different. Still not a fan, and rarely use mine... althogh I do prefer the aesthetics!
I'd still get some decent bulbs from www.powerbulbs.com first...

Also, you shouldn't assume that they're fog lamps just because they're switched. Mine used to have fogs, despite the fact that they're wired in with the full beam. They've since been changed for spot/driving lights which do provide some benefit with the full beam. I know some others, such as Ted, have the driving lights whilst some are wired in with the sidelights and some with the dipped beam (either of which are appropriate for fog lamps).
I thought that the s-series cars all had factory fitted fog lamps mounted in the front bumper. Can't say as I ever use mine though. I have not been out in the fog yet.
Podie said:IIRC you needs a pair of H4s. However, if you speak to Powerbulbs they'll confirm that as they only do one twin filament bulb.

cheers podie - which one will fit?
hmm... can't remember..! er... little help?
If you do want to fit auxillary lights, I've seen some pics of the earlier bonnets with rectangular lights mounted in the lower air intake which look alright. Come to think of it, I think there's a picture in the bible (2nd edition) somewhere.

Anyone who drives with front fogs on in clear conditions is a of the first order in my opinion. Even worse are the s who drive with fogs and sidelights. What a bunch of s. And they DO dazzle!
Well, I`ve never been dazzled by them, if they are dipped, how can you be? And I must be a , as I use them on the Rover as it gives me a better view of the road which is a good thing IMO.
Roy.
BRGS2,
You could also combine the Phillips H4 bulbs with the mod-wise headlight conversion:-

Correct, think it's in the introductory bit. IMHO they look OK, but would only put them on if mine were'nt bright enough.
