Hi all, I have just completed doing my Chimaerea chassis, yesterday.
I notices that you forgot one very important thing.
After cleaning the dust from the chassis with white spirit etc, get the dust cleaned out of your throat, cold beer or even better a nice whiskey will do the job.
Using whiskey has 2 helpful uses, one being it cleans your throat out the other it warms you a bit, just before you get yourself back on the ground for that first coat of paint.
Have fun and thank goodness, I have finished mine. & the whiskey!!

Just a quick tip, when ordering POR-15 Rust Preventing Paint from Frosts ensure you repeat yourself atleast 15 times, that way they won't send you out Por-15 Chassis Black Paint.

After 1 1/2 days under the car, I have prepared both outriggers and front suspension for painting, and got the primer on one side. This is a long job ......
I had to remove the wheel arches to get reasonable access to the front corners of the outriggers. Saying that it is hard to get to all of the metal is an understatement. When painting, I had to use an old toothbrush, with the plastic head bend at 45° with a hot air gun, to try to paint the side of the outriggers that are not visible.

Lots of fun :P

mel-S3. Tell me how did you get on with a match for the original red chassis colour. I know Frost do a Ford red paint but is this a good match or are there closer ones? I also am about to contemplate doing the chassis with POR 15 - it must be that time of year.

Not sure how good the match is for Ford red. I originally tried Hammerite red for a topcoat over the Epoxy Mastic. This is somewhat brighter than the chassis red, so i darkened it with Hammerite black. It wasn't a bad match, but just couldn’t get it quite right. Depends how fussy you are, I thought it may be fine for the main parts of the chassis, especially when it gets dirty, didn’t think it would be good enough for under the bonnet though, wishbones, etc. So i ended up taking a piece of the old powder coating to my local Autopaint supplier and having some mixed. I think Halford's may be able to do this, but they may be a little dearer.

I used two coats of red for the topcoat, because one didn’t cover the black Epoxy Mastic totally, even the Hammerite. Then found my self in the situation pointed out by Gadgit, of the two coats of Hammerite reacting.
