The man from Autoglass is coming tomorrow to replace the screen on my S3. Looking through some of the archives there have been mixed experiences with windscreen replacement.

Is there anything I should mention to him based on other people's experience other than 'don't wreck the trim or paintwork'

Thanks
Darren

I had a replacement done once by one of the main windscreen repairers with no problem. Initially though, the Autoglass bloke persuaded me a repair would do the trick. It didn't, it failed the MoT, so I had it replaced.

Don't drive it til the next day if you can avoid it!
gives the screen glue time to go off properly and then less chance for it to crack. Don't put the hood up either !

gadgit,

Pardon me for using this but I thought your thread of the other day was very pertinent, especially with regard to the body profile and how the screen has to be fitted.

Guys,
There have been three windscreen related threads within the last couple of days, there are search facilities on here that allow you to look back a couple of days or a couple of years, IMVHO
it may help some of your queries before you post.

So the screen should be installed with the roof off then?

Yes, sorry Richard, perhaps for the inexperieced or persons with a very low intelligence (if thats how you spell it)I did of course mean to fit the screen with all the windows up, the roof on, the bars fully pressed home, the windscreen wipers on, and of course the window washer going flat out to keep the fitter cool while he's working!

Any other things I missed, I,m sorry !!!!!!!!!!!

Now I'm confused. Is this cutting irony, gentle sarcasm or patronising condescension?

Answers on a posting please.

An update. Took 2 Autoglass fitters almost 2 hours to remove the old screen using a variety of tools & methods. I was getting very concerned at one point when the cheese wire was used that came dangerously close to damaging the trim. Apparently the bonding agent used comes right to the trim on the A post and headlining. Fair play - they took their time and avoided any damage.

New screen in no problem !!

Ah, Richard, cutting irony is spot on with a forum like this!
Don't panic, I was with you all of the way.
Always nice to see a bit of interesting humour.
Talking of which, can't wait to see you and your car, now did that come out right?

All the best.

I'm sure I could choose to interpret that in many different ways, but I'll be good. Anyway, the feeling's mutual - pictures are all well and good, but it'd be great to see the fruits of your restoration in the flesh. You must be very close to your 'on the road' date now.

Unfortunately, I don't make it out East very often, but if you're ever down Berkshire way give me a shout - I have the same sort of standing arrangement with Podie!
