Is yours old enough to not need them for the MOT? I'd been thinking about how much hassle it might be to have to put them back each time as I know some others do, (never heard of that on an S though)..
Cats were only mandatory after 1993, so hook 'em out.I gather their removel produces another 10 BHP.
get 'em out!

mine is an S3C and doesn't have hydraulic tappets - I don't think any of the 2.8 or 2.9 Ford V6 engines had hydraulic tappets throughout the life of the Granada / Scorpio...?
Note that the above post has subsequently been demonstrated to be a pile of slavering pi5h... the 2.9 engine with catalysts DID in fact have hydraulic tappets, as confirmed by TVRMark (Thanks mate) so now I have to reset mine because I adjusted them didn't I?
D'oh!
Me too... I thought something was wrong when I adjusted mine, seemed a lot harder than my old 2.9 Granada!
I have just been re-setting mine, but it got dark before I got the rocker covers back on. Won't get back to it till Wednesday now - Hope it works...
There is no way to tell visually - the hydraulics are way down inside the block, the top end is identical to the old type.
Agree with Mark - the engine number may tell...

Steve Heath has some information on his website, www.tvrbooks.co.uk, regarding which S3c engine numbers have the hydraulic lifters. Just follow the update buttons for the S bible. IIRC all S3c's after VIN numbers ending in 11340 have the solid lifters, therefore hydraullic lifters on S3c's are the exception rather than the rule.
Hope this is of some help,
