Peter Nixon did a S price guide and hints page a few years back, although since he got his Chimaera it hasn't been updated.

One more:

Check the rear trailing arms. The main tube is open at the back and due to the static angle of the arm it can fill up with water and rot through at the pivot end. Repair is usually changing both sides to the later S2 types.

Those who have had catastrophic failure here may not wish to repeat the experience

(edited for my poor english)

Nice Website Pies - going well. Nice pics, but, heaven forbid you include a pic of a V6 in there

Seriously, I would have thought what people want answered apart from what's bad and what's not, is the differences/changes from S1-4(and of course V8)...
2.8 vs 2.9, early/late dash, door sizes etc, and interior/exterior pics of each model, plus as mentioned, rough price guide that's up to date.

Keep up the good work

One minor point... you state that the V6 should run at 90°C at all times, but mine quite often never reaches full temperature in cold weather and I know, from a previous thread, that this is typical behaviour.

Keep up the good work!

At the end I think you should maybe put more empasis on ignoring "unusal rattles".

What about mentioning some engine checks too.

A very good brief buying guide though.

It is probably worth mentioning to check the interior for damp especially around the passenger footwell area - ie fusebox.

I had a CAT1 alarm recently fitted by a reputable specialist. From what I understand, the whole certificate thing has now been phased out.

The V6 charge warning light doesn't switch off until the engine has passed about 2200 revs, may be worth a mention.. Something about the S3/S3C is it or ins't it debate may be worth a mention..

I wonder about the relative running costs of V8s vs V6s? I've a vague feeling I was advised to budget for considerably more with a V8, but from the last few months of talking to people I'm not sure that is true. (I really must update my profile..)

The point about not buying the 1st you look at is a good but tricky one. The 1st I saw I think was actually the one of the best I've ever seen.. I think the trick is to be patient.. Join the club or come along to a few PH type meets and talk to people. That way you can see a few before you fall in love with the 1st you look at knowing you want to buy one. Best thing to do is avoid a lemon and be put off..

Another thing, almost every TVR I've ever known change hands has had one or two new problems emerge almost immediuately. Broken throttle cables on the way home, doors not locking/unlocking, drivers window deciding to not work, alternator blowing after 100 miles. I think they just get upset with parting company and having a new home. Just happens, so be prepared for it I guess..

Next step, is to include a few photos so people know what we are talking about.

Then once i've got some photos of V6 varients i'll do a bit about the differences.

Are the following statement correct

S1----- 2.8 engine
S1.5----2.9 engine
S2------2.9 engine updated car mainly rear suspension
S3------2.9 engine new chassis
C-------car with cats
S4------2.9 engine new body uprated brakes
V8------4.0 engine

"all "S" series cars except a very few V8 and S4 cars can be de - catted legally, as any car built before 01/01/93 does not need cats"

Any more to add to differences

Cheers so far

Just to chuck a couple of spanners into your list, I would add that there are a few S1.5's that look like S2's (wheels, semi-trailing arms, etc), but have 2.8 engines. Also all S4's are S4C's with rear discs and the semi-trailing arms were changed again from the S3 type.

They are all unique - as standard.

S3 has longer doors 'for easier access to the vehicle', and revised dash layout. Wood trim/electric mirrors (like V8S) standard somewhere in middle of production, but models vary. (I have J plate S3 with S2 mirrors and round knobs (steady Podie))

Would be good to put pics of two different layouts as they are so different.

This is mine - can email original (non fotango squashed) or take another more 'centralised' if required?
