2 things

I forgot to post that Glen from the Rapier owners club contacted me about the filler caps - he said at £100 there was only likely to be very limited support from their end.

Secondly how about for an idea we just get thin pieces of stainless cut to the outline of the cap and release button and just bond them to the existing cap?
It would be far cheaper and look nearly as good IMHO.
It would need further investigation - is the cap flat enough to do this for a start?

Hi All,

Just to let all you TVR guys know where we are with the fuel cap, as agreed with Norman (it is on hold at the moment).

The complete assembly would be SS with a price of £95 per unit provided we are close to our target of 100 units, as very few of you know me I would have suggested that somebody inependant hold a £35 non-returnable deposit, the reason for this is simple I would be laying out some very serious money up front the vast majority of the money is tooling costs and I have been stung before (by people changing their minds).
I personally hope Normans UK contact is sucessful (I've put my name to six) as there is no real come-back with China should anything go sour they would just vanish, there is also no way we could easily get the moulds back to the UK.

I do hope this clearly shows where we are on the Fuel Cap front.

All the best.

Mick

UPDATE

Spoken to my man today and the situation is as follows. Due to pressure of work etc he isnt in a position to do any little not very profitable jobs for 4 to 6 months. But has confirmed that he will be able to make the three parts in SS, ie latch, cap and base. The cap will have four threaded hole for screws to retain the sealing cap but that will have to be fitted by us as well as the two hinge pins. The cost will be £110 just a little more than quoted previously but he only requires an order for 50 and we are just about there.

I will need to fund the purchase of the stainless steel so will need a 50% deposit with order in due course.

Mick Gaughran is in a position to go into production now slightly cheaper

So guys its up to you - what do you want to do

We were able to re-manufacture the originals as TVR CarParts (RIP) had a supply of original castings and I was able to get them machined and plated etc. They did not have a locking mechanism. However the complete supply went to TVR CarParts in Devon who went out of business a year or so ago.

David Gerald of redditch bought much of the S spares that were there and so might still have the remaining re-manufactured petrol caps. Otherwise phillpot has a good solution, no doubt he will be along with a photo soon!

Had a good search around and still struggling to find one.... nightmare ;-)

Love Phillpots solution... might have to have a word with my local car body shop and see what they can do for me....

I have been looking into the idea of a dowel type lock mechanism operated from inside the cabin, by cable. A similar idea to the petrol flap on my old Vauxhall Carlton, doesn't need much strength but stops the flap from popping up whan you press the release unless you have previously withdrawn the pin.
All low tech, no electrics but with the price of fuel leaving the TVR with un guarded petrol cap is asking for trouble.

I'd looked at them too, I suspect it might be possible to make that work, after all it could just be slip in to the rubber hose connecting to the filler tube... It'd be nice to see some more pics of the cap, open in particular to see if the base plate is the right shape...

My filler cap broke on the weekend so I need to find a replacement and a locking one would be "nice"

I am talking to him now... i inquired whether he could make it work but he didn't respond to that but when i asked him about whether he had one for a TVR he said:

"I do have a rather special minty one which i can send you some photos off,let me know if your interested.
Regards"

CANNOT WAIT TO SEE WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE!!!!!!!!!! LOL LOL LOL

When he responds i'll ask if he thinks it could be moddied to fit ours...

Go to page 5 of the listing (car compatibility) and there is a pic of the open filler cap/base plate.

edited to add:

just found this statement in the ad too:

This cap will not fit Reliant Scimitar SE6a/b & GTC and TVR S series cars.
