Where can you get them chromed anyway? Thinking of getting mine done.
My local plating man said he could not do it without removing the spring loaded bits from the cap - but if you remove them you cannot get them back on again! So this source from India sounds a good option (but not for me - I got one of the last caps from TVR Carparts )

You'd definitely need to dismantle it all, but I don't see why there would be any problem reassembling it. The original assembly seems to use rods that are bonded into the casting and then rivetted. It would probably be possible to do the same, but if not it shouldn't be hard to drill and tap it.Just a thought that might help the guys who are looking to produce these:
Rather than just saying "I'm interested" it might be useful to give them some idea how much you might be willing to pay for:
Rather than just saying "I'm interested" it might be useful to give them some idea how much you might be willing to pay for:
- The major components (the cap, sealing ring and release button) in polished stainless, requiring you to dismantle your old one and put it back together with the new parts.
- As above but exchange - the price doubles if they don't receive your old filler cap within say a couple of weeks.
- A brand new stainless filler cap ready to fit.
If we do get into a position to produce new petrol filler caps its going to be done as a non profit making excercise and on the simplest basis possible. I certainly dont want the complications of lots of options. In the first instance it would be a complete replacement cap, no part exchnages or part replacement. If that not economical to do then see what else is possible.
Just let me know of interest at the moment just need to establish if there is sufficient interest and it appears there will be escecially when the Scimitar guys sign up.

I didn't suppose that you would, but without knowing what people would be prepared to pay for the various options you have no way of knowing whether any of them are commercially viable. A thousand people interested is no good if they're only willing to pay £50 each for something that would cost you £300 to produce.Gassing Station | S Series | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
