NEWS

I have a provisional price for a complete Filler Cap (all companants) in 316 Stainless Steel expected price is £100 assuming there are sufficient takers between ourselves and the Scimitar guys.

Price is high because of the tooling costs.

So please indicate if you are interested at £100 we will still need to ensure quality is high. The end result will be First class

Well I havent heard from goff (Mick Gaughran) but I dont want this to die so I have asked at a local precision engineers (who have made the tube bits for the bonnet hinges) and they tell me they could make the base, filler cap and trigger. I guess that we would have to transfer the sealing bit with springs and the spring for the trigger and assemble it our selves.

The good news is he is talking about £100 all in stainless steel and polished BUT we would have to commit to a 100 exactly the same as before. so far the following have expressed an interest.

Do we have any more please.

I will contact the Scimitar Owners Club in the absence of goff and see whats happening there.

Could Barkychoc contact Glen at the Sunbeam Rapier Owners Club and see the interest level there

Mick rang me this am by chance he is still working on the project (but his time has been very limited as his company makes thing to conbat swinw flu and they have been very very busy) its possibile he might have a supplier but in China and while he will keep his supplier warm feels that it would be best to get a UK supplier so we will see if my local opportunity comes to anything.

It would be useful if someone could lend me a filler cap, tatty would be best, which I could take to the fabricator. Better still would be one I could dis-assemble.

Any offers

UPDATE

Spoken to my man today and the situation is as follows. Due to pressure of work etc he isnt in a position to do any little not very profitable jobs for 4 to 6 months. But has confirmed that he will be able to make the three parts in SS, ie latch, cap and base. The cap will have four threaded hole for screws to retain the sealing cap but that will have to be fitted by us as well as the two hinge pins. The cost will be £110 just a little more than quoted previously but he only requires an order for 50 and we are just about there.

I will need to fund the purchase of the stainless steel so will need a 50% deposit with order in due course.

Mick Gaughran is in a position to go into production now slightly cheaper

So guys its up to you - what do you want to do

Chaps,

Did you ever go ahead with these locking repro fuel caps? I need one and found this thread... if not anyone out there know of wher ei can get a locking feul cap for an 88 S Series?

Cheers

Knowler
We were able to re-manufacture the originals as TVR CarParts (RIP) had a supply of original castings and I was able to get them machined and plated etc. They did not have a locking mechanism. However the complete supply went to TVR CarParts in Devon who went out of business a year or so ago.

David Gerald of redditch bought much of the S spares that were there and so might still have the remaining re-manufactured petrol caps. Otherwise phillpot has a good solution, no doubt he will be along with a photo soon!

This cap will not fit Reliant Scimitar SE6a/b & GTC and TVR S series cars.

Indeed... hence the thought id found the holy grail... ;-)

But potentially we could still mod it to fit.. i'll ask him when he responds.... other wise the lovely minty one might be the way forward for now lol lol lol
Nope wont fit into the recess in the bodywork

Hi All,

Just to let all you TVR guys know where we are with the fuel cap, as agreed with Norman (it is on hold at the moment).

The complete assembly would be SS with a price of £95 per unit provided we are close to our target of 100 units, as very few of you know me I would have suggested that somebody inependant hold a £35 non-returnable deposit, the reason for this is simple I would be laying out some very serious money up front the vast majority of the money is tooling costs and I have been stung before (by people changing their minds).
I personally hope Normans UK contact is sucessful (I've put my name to six) as there is no real come-back with China should anything go sour they would just vanish, there is also no way we could easily get the moulds back to the UK.

I do hope this clearly shows where we are on the Fuel Cap front.

All the best.

Mick

I did look into the question of a joint project with the Scimitar boys see post above. had many conversations with Mick, see his website www.middlebridge-scimitar.co.uk but we left it lie as the unmachined originals become available

Good luck

Ahhhh so do you think there is any point in re-opening this then? He seems keen and seems to have a solution??
Anything is worth trying and the Sunbeam rapier also used that petrol cap!
