Just discovered a very small amount of clutch fluid seeping back through the bulkhead on my V8S and running back down the pedal. Can't be much as level in reservoir has barely moved.

I assume this means the master cylinder seals are on the way out? I've read somewhere that kits are available and am more than willing to give it a go myself. Anyone here done this job on an S? Anything in particular I should know (hints/tips/problems)?
I'll gie the bible a thorough read first, but just thought I'd ask here first.

Also, what fluid type/spec are you using? Reckon I should get some now for top-ups in case I don't get round to do job for a while.

Don't bother with seal kits ... very often the bore is worn anyway and it is just a very temp. measure ... New master is the way to go ...

I did this job in the summer, ended up replacing Master and Slave cylnder seals IMHO as it is only the clutch and not brakes I wouldn't replace the whole Master cylender unless absolutly necessary.

Replacement seal kits are manufactured for a reason !

Anyway a quite trawl thtought the archives should provide you with a complete breakdown of what I did.

P.S I had a small amount of fluid leking in to cabin for about 4 years, just checked the level weekly, it was infact a worn pipe that caused my problems in the end.

Mine has the same problem. Let me know how you get on fixing it. I'll do mine when I take the body off in the spring.

My clutch (V8S) gave up on New Year's Eve, luckily within walking distance of the party we were going to. AA took us home yesterday, now I need to sort it out. Have searched the archives and read all the useful previous posts but not convinced yet about the cause of my problem. Clutch pedal just went straight to the floor and doesn't come back up on its own (can pick it up, but just drops back again). No noticeable loss of clutch fluid from the reservoir and only minimal evidence of seepage inside down towards the pedal. Have read the "bible" (old version) and wonder whether it might be something like a broken return spring (?) rather than failure somewhere in hydraulics. Would be grateful for comments/thoughts/suggestions before I start. Thanks. Simon.

The return spring will be inside the Master Cylinder, so you will have to remove it either way ! It is only 2 Bolts and then 1 nut on the arm itto the back of the pedal, quite easy once you have mastered lying upside down with you feet in the air.

If the pedal isn't returning then it could be the clutch return spring or it could be the seals allowing fluid passed and then not returning due to fluid pressure behind the seal. Either way you'll have to srip the cylinder. My return spring failed last year and I obtained a replacement from Rimmer Bros, it was the one for a TR6 clutch master cylinder. I'll dig out the part number if you need it. Whilst I was at it I did the seals on the clutch and slave cylinders too.
