Just had a full overhaul of my Steering rack done by Kelly Bray Steering for £75+vat. Absolutely superb job - rack as tight, smooth and good looking as a brand new one. Would recommend them to anyone.

The above price included the manufacture of a dedicated bush as the originals are not available. This proved to be a good family run business who even took the time to discuss the rack with me and clarified a few points over it's provenance. He even allowed me to drop the rack off and collect on a Saturday when the workshop is closed. Basically the company consists of Father - does the work on the racks, Son - runs the website and business, mother - drives the delivery van. Its good to support a local small firm.

Anyway from his information apparently the center section is a modified Chevette rack - the modifications are to the mounting arrangements which are enhanced for strength and manufactured from Steel as opposed to the OEM aluminium. The bushes to connect the center section to the track rods are Lotus and the track rods themselves are Ford (Cortina Mk3 he believed). So a real hybrid

HTH others in future

I had my steering rack refurbished by BAR Propshafts, Skewen, South Wales, www.barpropshafts.co.uk for £60 + VAT inside 2 hours! What great guys and such good service. It's easy to get the rack on and off, but you will need to get the tracking set after-wards.
