S Club Heaven 2010 will take place this year on 22 and 23 May 2010 from 2pm on the Saturday until 4pm on the Sunday. Organisers of the event can be contacted at mark@gbsportscar.com. A summary of the details can be seen below and this will be updated as things progress, but the master website is at www.gbsportscar.com

The Recce was completed on Thursday 18 February and the venue looks ideal. We have also narrowed down the Runway time and details are below. It is now time to start signing up for the event, merchandise, runway time and camping. If you want runway time it will need to be signed up for by 16 May 10 and details provided to me so I can provide an access list to DCAE Cosford

Locations and Programme

The event is split over two days as previously stated.

Day 1: Runway Time and BBQ:

costs for the runway have been finalised at £25 per car (I could reduce to £20 but a vote of those signed up this week was unanimous to increase H4H donation rather than refund). Remember you will need to sign a disclaimer stating that you are aware you are responsible for removal of your vehicle from the RAF station and any associated clean up costs in the event of an accident. How much you use your insurance company to cover this is for you to decide. The runway time will require those participating to be at the Museum at 1530 to be allowed onto the runway in one group and then we will all leave as a single group at 1800ish. A professional photographer is being arranged by the RAF Station for the event as well

BBQ and Camping:

The camping and hence the BBQ has been arranged for the evening of 22 May at Weston Park, a Stately home just outside Shifnal. The park gates are locked between 2300 and 0700 so all cars will be secure. This part of the event is open to the whole family and all are welcome. The charge for the BBQ will be a few pounds on the day purely to cover the food and the charge to camp is £10 per tent. Weston Park details are available Here. The BBQ will comprise of the usual sausage and burgers and will be a simple affair with people being asked for a contribution at the time of a couple of pounds - I am prepared to buy the stuff myself and take a risk here. Again if anyone lives near RAF Cosford and has a BBQ we could borrow please let me know The BBQ will start from about 1800 when the cars get back from the runway time

Day 2: The Show

The show part of the event will be held at the RAF Museum Cosford near Shifnal in Shropshire. The website for the location is Here. There is no cost for attendance and entrance to the museum is also free. There is a car parking charge for the event though which is most reasonable at £3 per car for all day. This £3 amounts as our donation to the museum which is in itself a charity run establishment. As usual there will be a hoon in the middle of the day and routes are being scoped as we speak.

Prizes for the show will be as normal with Best S1/1.5, Best S2, Best S3/4 and Best V8S as well as a cup for Best in Show being up for grabs

Memorabilia

As usual there will be memorabilia available and pictures of the memorabilia are available Here but basically it is the choice of Mugs, Pens and baseball caps for a cost of from £3 to £10 each. Of course you could get some of each!!!! As well as the standard fare that I'll order before the event I'll have a brochure at the event which people can order just about any clothing item from with the logo embroidered on. Examples are Rugby shirts at approx £25, polo shirts approx £15 and T shirts approx £10. For full range available see This link

Mugs:

The Charity

This years Charity was chosen by the Organisers and is very applicable to the venues we will be using. This year we have gone for Help for Heroes. This charity is a very worthwhile charity to support, giving support to our Nations Armed Forces and in particular those who have given much for their country. Whether or not you believe in the causes for which the Forces fight should not matter, it is the fact that they do as they are instructed by Government and they do make sacrifices for the Nation as a whole.

So how do you sign up? Please complete the sign up form at the bottom of This Page. Completing this form will send the organisers an email, and they will then send you a reply with an invoice for what you have decided to order and an address to which you should send your cheque. Although you will have signed up by completing the form, your place and merchandise will not be secure until you have sent a cheque for to the organizers and it has been cashed.

Runway Time Clarification

The format for runway time will be 1/4 mile ish (3000ft runway - so distance to be decided to maximise benefit) runs with circulating around taxiway (this can be quick except for section past air ambulance launch pad) to join back of queue then timed blast down the runway, with as many runs as time permits. I expect this to be plenty as it should be a run should only take 30 seconds or so with the circulation about a minute. There is also a large dispersal area where you will be able to perform any boy racer style stuff you may wish to do i.e. handbrake turns etc. The only restriction really is we cannot race.

With regards to insurance there are three aspects to this:

Firstly TVRCC third party insurance - this effectively covers third party personal injury, loss of use of the runway, damage to a glider/plane etc (amongst others). Provided by TVRCC.

MOD Insurance and Defence Estates License - Covered by TVRCC

Your own vehicle insurance - you need to ensure that you are content you are adequately covered. In essence if you have an accident then you must be able to remove your car from the airfield and clear up the mess that is left (i.e. the fibreglass) as it is a well used runway and you will be responsible for ensuring this is done. You will also have to sign a disclaimer stating that you are aware of this.

The above is all a bit more restrictive than I had hoped for but in today's litigious society and era of public bodies having to exploit all "business opportunities" I have been unable to arrange this "by the back door" as had been envisaged. Costs however are as low as I can get and if the event goes ahead it may give us or the TVRCC an in to develop a full day track day on the site, which the setup is ideal for.

However from my experience of the open days at Castle Coombe where you pay £35 for a 20 minute session I think the £25 is good value.
