Depends.. we've done this one a few times now and there might be a better thread in the archives for it I reckon.

the trouble with all teh previous threads was teh level of 'techie' wording. I will never know where the plenum chamber is, but a nice pic showing the black thing that I have to unplug is perfect.

It shoudl be an FAQ, every new owner is goiing to learn about teh TP the hard way.

Thanks for all your help though. I'll probably spend the evening unplugging all sorts.

If unplugging doesn't affect it that much, why do we need something that fails so often?

Thanks for all this - its answering my questions of a couple of days ago. However, I remember one bit of advice saying that on the S3 I should go for the throttle pot off of a Cerbera - is this the general view, and if so what manufacturer/engine would that come from? Thanks.

do a search for cerbera throttle pots on the S forum. I think LeeBee or Johno fitted a cerb TP to their S. I think that was as a result of a series of knackered Ford TP's over only a few months. IIRC It does require some adapting to fit in the S - probably just the connectors which may need to be changed anyway........

Craig,

I occasionally get a bit of 'chugging' when the car is warming up but it seems to resolve itself once the engine has warmed up a bit. Don't know if it's related to the TP but It does seem that these seem a bit temperamental judging by the various posts.

Let me know how you get on. If you need a hand drop me a line, although I'm not sure I'll be a huge help.

Steve.

Had the same thing on mine. Unplugged the TP at the weekend and it now runs a lot smoother - though obviously not as efficient. Just have to get a new TP now I guess.

Finally replaced mine at the weekend. Piece of p*ss really. The car now runs at about 950rpm at idle again (rather than 1500 ish) - and the cold start "lurch" effect has gone. The only reason I mention it is that it's the first properly mechanical type thing I've ever done with this car. Oh - the sense of acheivement.
