The filming went well and I had a good time, the V8S didnt take away Top Dog Status though Unfortunately!

The guy that was supposed to bring a 944 Cabriolet came in a 911 Carrera 2 Coupe, hardly a direct comparison, costing £22K. It turns out hes not an owner but a dealer and brought another car instead!

But saying that there were three judges and one went for the V8S the other the Porsche and the deciding judge wanted to pick the V8S but as he is six foot five and couldnt really get into my car he said he had no choice but to go with the Porsche. So another day and a shorter third judge and we would have beaten the Porsche, its only really based on personal opinion and the price difference was not taken into account. They did say that if they were asked to see whether the Porsche was worth twice as much it would have been a different outcome. The V8S put up a good fight, although I think we would have done even better had the judges been out in the cars and heard the V8 roar.

Between Mr Sheen and myself we took lots of photos and I will post the best ones on Monday once I have sorted through them! It should be shown on TV the 14th of April, but its yet to be confirmed and I will let you know.

Richard as your friend is now taping the shows does that mean you dont need me to record them for you?

Cheers

Mike

Hi Mike,

I can't believe that the Porker won it, although I'm sure the result would've been different if it'd been the 944. And as for the guy being too tall to get in the V8S - what a pathetic excuse - I manage to fit fine in the S3 at 6'6", so he obviously wasn't trying!

Commiserations all the same. At least you'll have a great souvenir of your car once the program's been broadcast. Did they tell you what episode it's going to be in?

If you're ok to continue taping them that'd be handy, just in case my mate misses one, but don't worry about it if it's a pain as each episode is repeated a few times, so I should be ok.

Cheers,

Richard

Edited to add: Anyway, I couldn't fit in the Countach, but that didn't stop me picking it!

Can I just clarify something, are you saying the judges determined which was the best car without going out in either of them???

Yep....!

It was a bit crap in that respect, as the judges didnt even get to see the footage from the track never mind get to drive in the cars! It was all based on personal opinion really, its a pilot show and they said if they get a second series they will get more of a budget!

One judge liked the V8S, another liked the Porsche and kept going on about the V8S using lots of bits from the parts bin, thus making it 'Kitcar' ish and taking away its 'Britishness' then in the same sentence said if it had been the Griffith it might have been a different story!! Thats how much he knew about TVR's. The Griffith used the parts bin too, as does the Aston DB7 which I pointed out, he was a bit clueless!! He was the boyfriend/husband of Penny Mallory, the presenter, probably the only reason he was on the show!

The deciding vote went to an MP, who is a classic car fan and he loved the V8S but couldnt get in as at 6'5 his legs were too long, so he chose the Porsche.

All in all it was a good 2 days out and looking forward to seeing the beast on TV!

This photo was taken as the car waited amongst the Formaula One cars before filming.

This photo was taken at the track, the 2CV was up against a Mk1 Mini.

What utter tripe this programme must be if they are judging on their pre-concieved ideas , might as well just send them a photo. I take it ypou explained in its era the V8S was as quick if not quicker in gear than the 911 turbo . Utter tripe.............

Still wouldn't mind seeing it though, so don't forget to tape it and pass it on to Luca Brassi for hosting .

Yeah the format of the show is a little disappointing, but like I said its a low budget series! Nice to get the V8S on TV though and my 15 mins of fame!! Yes pointed out this was one of the fastest cars available in its time, it only lost really because of the MP's long legs. I was there when he was trying to get into my car and its true he couldnt sit in properly, his legs were very long!

Looking forward to seeing it though, I will send the tape to Luca and hopefully he can host the car on track bit!
