Hi! I have been driving my S2 (only bought it in Oct and put it away for the winter) few more miles now the snow is gone and the salt has washed away. I have come to the conclusion that for a very small car it has a ton of blind spots because of the sh**y side view mirrors. I would like to put on electric mirrors. But not by bringing them from France or the UK. Too much money. Favor please! Would someone with electric mirrors and a digital camera please take some picture close up etc so I can see the shape and the way they are mounted etc. Thank you in advance.

Hi Dave,

As per previous discussions on here, I think it would be a nightmare trying to fit the later style (Citroen) electric mirrors to your S2 due to the recess they sit in in the door.

However, I think there was an earlier fitment of eletric mirrors on the S that might've been from a Capri, so it's probably those that you'd need a photo of.

Good luck!

Hi Dave

I too have been contemplating this problem. I have an S3, but with the stupid 'speed up' mirrors like yours.

The later mirrors fitted to Chimaeras, Citroens (and McLaren F1s) sits in a recessed hole in the door. Our doors are flat, so no go!

There were interim mirrors on some S3s, which sit up higher and look very flat compared with the later ones, but are electric. They are off a Ford Sierra I believe, and are shown in the Bible as S3 mirrors.

I decided that I would replace my mirrors simply with any mirror that would cover the existing hole. I could possibly rig up the electric switches through the pathetic ashtrays. It would be nice though, to keep the mirrors OE if possible, hence my interest in the Sierra mirrors.

Haggishead kindly sent me mirror base measurements (which I haven't yet checked ). The S3 (flat) electric mirror base is rectangular/oval shaped: 107mm front to back and 24mm (widening to 34mm in the middle) top to bottom. If this covers the original hole, it sounds like a plan!

See Haggishead's profile for piccies.

The drivers side shown on my pic in my profile, is electric. I have removed them and replaced with fixed chrome ones, as neither were in good condition. I may still have the old one in my garage and you are welcome to have it, but it may be difficult to match another for your drivers side. I will see if I can at least get a part number off it for you. If you need it, I could also remove the switch and joystick controller from mine too.

I would like the dimensions. Please. I’m still interested in a picture, again I’m in Canada and I can’t get some of your stuff. Now, if they are Ford, I stand a better chance. I did today saw a car (Pontiac Bonneville SSI) early 90’s with mirrors that look like the ones I have seen in pictures. I’m interested to see the angles of electric mirrors on the S series car doors.
So they call those Sport Mirrors. So far the only sport I see, is trying not to be killed by a transport truck in one of the many blind spots.

i bought a pair of mx5 electric mirrors which iam going to fit to an m series. Have a look at a 1990ish maxda, they look well sexy, nice size, bolt onto door, electric, various colours, easily available and they are mounted on a pillar which should when fitted position the lense at the correct height.

Mmm, that would look great if it covered the OE hole (must check that soon!) Now all I need to do is respray my car red to match the mirrors

I have an S2 with electric mirrors - they are crap! Blind spots are everywhere and they rust like bugger - I looked at MX5 - nwould be interested if they work, I also thought Porsche 924 mirrors would fit. I have also heard of people fitting Audi 80 mirrors though you would need to make a base for them - from fibreglass and resin - to get the right mounting angle.

Hope this helps.

Steve.

Thanks Guys. John M sent me some pictures to. It is a big help. To see where and how they are mounted I can now go to the Auto Wreckers and have a look at what will fit. It just has to warm up again. Any other ideas will be researched.

I now find myself walking threw parking lots looking at mirrors. I think I found ones that look great and should fit. You in the UK can get them easier than I can because you will have more of them. Have a look at the Audi TT mirrors. We don’t have many in the wreckers here I’m sure but I will start looking.
