I'm looking to upgrade (I have standard at the mo) the discs and pads on the front of my S3 over the winter (one of the many jobs), and I'm after advice/recommendations please.

They need to be good for "normal" driving with the odd track day.

I intend just switiching the shoes for the same as, is this wise or is there an upgrade availble here (without going down the conversion route) ?

Thanks

Really no need for upgrade, new discs , Ferodo DS Performance pads, braided hoses and new brake fluid is all you need to do.

Is that one disk or 2? it's not very clear. You wouldn't want to buy 1 disk and then have to find a matching one.

Also it says dia is 293.5mm. Probably a typo but the standard disks are 239.5mm - worth checking!

Sharp eye!! It says discs with and s , so suppose 2 discs.
And can't imagine Ford Ka/Fiesta would have 293,5 mm discs.
Worth checking indeed!

Ditto Techbotics comments re 260mm (XR4X4) upgrade. Dead easy and very effective. Renew the servo as well if the old one is starting rust. You'll be very pleased with the result (and the cost!).

I'll second that, parts pop up in classifieds every so often with owners up-grading brakes or converting to 5 stud wheels.
Everything just bolts on, no mods. spacers, machining etc. required

So all you need are XR4x4 disks, calipers and pads?

I have warped disks on mine, and was going to replace them (was going to buy new disks tomorrow) - don't fancy the palaver of spacers etc - but if they are direct replacements..... hmmm scratchchin

Andrew,

NO!!!

Not XR4x4 discs you need XR4i (or ABS fitted 2WD sierra) discs, the offset is different for the 4x4, but the pads and calipers are the same irrespective of 2WD or 4WD

260mm easiest conversion ever - just make sure you get the carrier brackets as well as the calipers.

As Mark says - not the 4x4 discs. The ones you want are XR4i (and possible some others) with the following size :- 260mm dia, 24mm think, 58mm height. Direct fit and work well with some decent pads. I run Mintex M1144 MDB1236 and they offer good stopping power and great progression.
