I'll echo the sentiments above. You can go to any colour you like (light over dark will require more coats) and in theory the colour should last just as long the colour on the original, because it is the same process.

Use 10% by volume of cross linker x on vinyl or on areas that suffer lots of traffic. Use a compressor to apply for best results and don't overload..plenty of coats.
The finish coats are important, not enough and it stays a bit tacky and attracts dirt... At least that's my experience.
