i need a room in London ASAP. I'm looking as close to central as possible - but I'm not as rich as most people on here and really can't afford to go much higher than a grand a month for the room. I don't expect it to be amazing - just big enough for me to be able to sleep in and hold a few personal items without feeling like I need to get a shower when I walk into the place. I was looking at Camden, and Islington. But my experiences of London are further out that this so I have no idea.

So if anyone can recommend an okay area in zone 1/2 (more likely 2 due to budget) then I'd appreciate it. As I said I am not unrealistic but really just want something okay.

I had a bad day looking yesterday. Either filthy places or landlords who told me straight they had no interest in protected deposits. I don't mind the none protected deposit if I had a recommendation of a landlord - but it seems wrong to give over a grand to someone I don't know who is blatant that they don't agree with the law.

Have you tried SpareRoom.co.uk ?

https://www.spareroom.co.uk/

Could try Gumtree but there are plenty of scams of there with fake landlords and people sub letting taking money off people.

If you can find someone letting a spare room themselves then you wont have to deal with an agent or landlord as such.

You've got a pretty decent budget which should get you a nice enough place.

Definitely don't use MyRooms.co.uk

Seriously, do not use them.

It's not for rent but my wife has her old 1 bed flat in Shoreditch that she rents out for £350 a month....admittedly that's over your budget but then her flat is a 2min walk from Liverpool St. I would think you could get close to your budget a bit further out in East London for a 1 bed.

Don't you mean a week??? OP was only after a room (back in June! smile) so his budget would do okay in that area.
