Simply put TFL (whose aim is public transport) should never have been put in charge of London roads. They've completely stuffed it.

Anyone knows that the A13 camera's on the way to Lakeside are a joke, it's done nothing for safety and often there are fatal accidents on the A13 in the same spot in some part of Dagenham or something.

Have they sorted that? Have they fk.

All they are doing is hell bent on setting a ridiculously slow limit and thus crippling London to a standstill.

They're currently chopping Paddington and Lancaster Gate to shreds for a cycle lane and they've done piss poor road works and it creates miles of tailbacks.

More cameras are coming, most will drive at 35 because they struggle to keep to 40, others will try to watch their speedo rather then the road and crash.

So yes, the roads are much safer and flow oh so much better. Thanks TfL and fk you.

Very few cars have a speed limiter and even if they do, some are a joke to use and otherwise most people in cars don't bother with them.

My CLK I just sold had it, so it's easy to put in 40 with the flick of a lever and lock the speed. foot to the floor it'll maintain 40, unless you hit the kickdown for an override.

I have been in a 2015 Golf hire car and no limiter exists, so instead you just watch the speedo, or bounce between 37-41-43 etc. or land a ticket.

Just like the Darford tunnel crossing that STILL has a charge, it's one massive con.

/RANT.

Update, A406 Camera's now live.
I'm on the other end of the A406 in East London.

Most of the speed cameras have been removed and on the stretch of A12 up to Blackwall.

I'm sure at some point Average Speed will go in.
That is exactly what happened in NW London - speed cameras disappeared, then after a few months, came the average speed cameras.

Gents, you need to move to Germany:
I've recently drove 200 miles door-to-door in 2 hours. God bless the Autobahn!

Slightly off topic but I think the average speed ones at the A13 canning town flyover are active. See a lot more people slowing down rather than blasting past them. I don't think there are any average speed ones on the A406 past a certain point, only fixed speed ones
From Canning Town to Dagenham they are active, have been for a couple of years now.

Thats my point regarding the a406 a fair few of them have been removed although the lines are on the floor, so I feel they may put the average speed cameras in place. Only time will tell I guess.

Or it might mean that due to Cars being stuck in tail to tail traffic because of cycle lanes and the re programming of traffic lights to ps off every single motorist that the scameras are not now making any money and they can save the cost of the speed cameras and open another fkin cycle lane! rageragerage

Apologies, I should have been more clear. The Westbound ones are active I think, where the limit drops from 50 to 30.

IMO, the cameras sited from Hanger Lane to Bounds Green have improved traffic flow and reduced blood pressure. There's no no point in flying from one old fixed point camera to the next and so, nearly everyone cruises along happily. The IDEA lights and even the gyratory approach traffic seem slightly easier to get through too.

Plus, one gets a feeling of schadenfreude as those who don't know fly though the traffic on their way to penalty points. hehe

I still get tailgated on the stretch between Brent Cross and Hanger Lane by the people who haven't worked out what the average speed cameras do. I move over and enjoy the thought of the envelope landing on their mat (the ones with registered vehicles, that is).

Average cameras are in. The limit really needs to go up to 60 however.

Cars are much better than in 1991.

Oh sorry wait, it's going down further to 20. Cough Hackney.

Hammersmith and Fulham want to do the same (blanket 20 mph)

Then complain about congestion and pollution, well when everyone is sitting in a carpark status with the engine running it's hardly surprising.

I bet if the traffic flowed better it would have an impact on traffic and therefore the emissions issue that is a big topic at present.

Cynic - yes.

Unfortunately, the fact is traffic flow is better when you lower the speed of the traffic.
