Anyone else concerned about ULEZ

If I'm bumming around Richmond, Wimbledon and Kingston most of the time, I don't have to worry about buying a diesel do I?
Maybe. Westminster and Islington councils have already doubled the costs for parking a diesel in a bay on the street. Presumably they are targeting residents permits too. Big petrols are now being targetted in Barnet.
One one council does it the rest have a habit of following....

They're doing the same in Sutton. Permit fees are based on emissions and scale with tax band. Big petrols are now being targetted in Barnet.

Richmond will consult on a diesel surcharge for CPZ permits.

They will need to come up with a good reason for why they are focusing on parked cars that emit nothing, rather than those moving through the borough, other than the pure laziness of hitting the easy target of residents that they already have on their database. They should probably lead by example and do something like turn off the aircon in all their buildings first, since that causes more environmental damage than a parked car does! https://www.trlibdems.org.uk/a_greener_borough

Agree with all of that but sadly they have form here for emissions linked CPZ charges. A1 resident's permit for a 1.8T in 2008? £450. 2 years later after people had seen sense and voted them out? £90 flat rate.Their line on 20 mph was "it was in our manifesto and you voted for us in droves so that's all the mandate we need" - this will be the same. Sham public consultation and do it anyway.
Paris in France have already implemented it. I had to give my reg and get a Crit'Air badge as I planned a London - Paris road trip in my BMW.
I am registered as cat 3 and if it was 4 I wouldn't have been able to drive there.
When I look at the 2021 zone there's NO way I can get a bus or train to my fav steakhouse in Walthamstow. Although it's good for the environment don't you think businesses will be affected by this?
Will need to justify a cost of another car OR trade-in my troublesome BMW..

Can anyone who’s much smarter and better informed than me help clarify something?
The ULEZ will have the north / south circular extension in 2021. How probable is this?
There is the 2020 London Mayor elections in May. Any idea what the other potential candidates views are on the 2021 ULEZ extension?
Given the vast increase in areas covered, that a pre-2005 car isn’t that old and many lower income families live in said extended area, this feels like a no go.
Would appreciate any current views on the situation.

Labour / khan will push ahead.
Tory / bailey will scrap it but keep the existing central zone, last i heard
Green / berry and lib dem / siobhan whatsit want more of it, no plans I'm aware of there but logically you'd be looking at further extension into outer London boroughs and/or tightening of the specification.
No idea what the independents are thinking.

Khan is a disastrous Mayor and I hope Bailey get enough support to beat him. I agree that the central zone can stay ULEZ but it's a waste of £1bn bringing it out. Better ways to spend that on improving air quality. LB Waltham Forest have suggested including the whole borough, which is divided by the A406.

Exactly the same here in Richmond. They'll consult on a clean air zone in this term, so next year probably. Last year was 20mph, this year is the active travel strategy so it wouldn't be a surprise.so sdaiq khan will effectively force londoners to buy new cars ... great for those cheating car companies
but what happens to those cars
all that happens is that they move the pollution to other parts of the uk
they get super cheap cars .. it is a tax on londoners ... for doing nothing wrong
