Guys

Was hoping that my first post would be car related but looking for some security advice & offering a cautionery tale. Last night, I walk back from work in CW - youths round the marina being a general nuisance. Then get back to home (recently moved from the haven of a portered block on south side to just across the other side of Commercial Road as wanted a house). Missus tells me about a local pub that had the door kicked in the previous night and how during the day she was witness to a fight on a bus (apparantly 7 guys setting upon a couple) as it pulled up outside Limehouse DLR during the day. As she tells me this (I sh*t you not) our front door gets kicked in ! I run to the door but whoever it is was long gone - fortunately was on a light latch and not fully locked with deadlock so not much damage...BIB came round, took details and footprint off door. So, I spent the night with one eye open and missus sh***ing it and wanting out of the area..

Anyway, arranged for Banhams to come round today to price up the fitting of some heavy duty gear but wondered if anyone has experience / suggestion of an alternative outfit locally ? would appreciate any steer.

Was on the look out for a 996 or CSL for the spring but there is just no way I would even consider parking something like that around here now !

Have lived in the area for 4 years now - Is it just me or have things got worse over the last 6-9 months??

Be safe people!

Cheers

I've lived there for about the same time.

Used to be on Narrow Street now in secure block (not mental institution) just off Marina on North Side of Commercial Road.

Always seems to be the same group of kids. Who the f**k cuts their hair!

Innit!!

Only crimes I have ever seen have been underage drinking, graffitti and a few car windows getting smashed/broken into. Only ever seen one yellow board since I have lived there.

Worrying indeed. Might have to launch some youths into the canal on the way home.

Should also add if you want to park a car, there are plenty of spaces for rent in that new god aweful development over looking the railway. My flatmate used to pay £100/month for a secure space.

Live in Wapping Wall and we had the front door of our apartment block jemmied open over x-mas ~ quite an effort because it's not made of chipboard or anything. Then some random villain was caught on the CCTV trying to sneak in with a group of guests attending a party. Moral of the story: take all obvious security precautions, and then take the not-so-obvious ones and then if you think of any more...

I live just off Narrow Street and have been here for about 10 years. I've not noticed it getting any worse

We've moved to Narrow St in the last year. The local yoof seem to be no worse - maybe a bit better - than those in Hampshire. That said, the Griff does not live with us in Limehouse!

Marsh Wall here (Hilton Complex) and I must say..

I'd never live anywhere except a gated development around limehouse end of town..

We dont get much (any) grief over here.. but arround the end of narrow street / westferry it start to nose dive... and doesnt get much better until you get to back towards tower bridge..

Anywhere ON the river tends to be better, as it's typically gated.. but the estates off-river.. no ta.

I'm on Wapping High Street.

I would say the amount of smashed car windows that I see has remained consistent since I moved here 2 years ago smile

I disagree 100%. I live in a house (so non-gated) at the westferry end of Narrow street (South of Narrow St) and have done for 10+ years. Never seen or had any trouble. Maybe the other side of Narrow street is worse where the estates are, but I've never seen anything.

I'm down the road from Jamie, in Millharbour - and I have to agree with him! There's some houses just off Manchester road (near the paintball place) that don't seem too bad, maybe have a look around there.

I tend to be down @ The narrow more of recent.. always a warm welcome in there and with that new patio area conversion, lots of space!

A mate of mine lived in one of the gated developments off Westferry up until recently. The straw the broke the camels back was his witnessing 6-8 "hoodies" giving a couple of Polish guys a thorough kicking in borad daylight.

What had these Polish guys done to deserve it? Shouted at two or three of the hoodies for throwing fireworks at some school kids. The hoodies ran off and came back with their mates to give these two lads a slap. c4 weeks later, my mate was living in Herts.

I agree the Narrow is good these days after being a bit shit for a couple of years. Great beers and nice chips, good atmosphere as well.

How about one night next week?
