Only lived in Limehouse for two years but I reckon that it's a bit up and down recently and on the whole worse.

My block is on Three Colt Street - at the river end but not Dundee Wharf and not gated.

During the summer it got a bit sketchy - always gangs of kids hanging around the river walkway next to the block of flats; smoking / drinking etc.

Which TBH I didn't have that much of a problem with - I just found them a bit noisy.

Anyway the police started patrolling down there and they seemed to move off and autumn seemed to be okay (although it could have all been down to the weather)

Then on Christmas Eve the front security door was broken and they broke into the communal garage and took a motorbike and a couple of pedal bikes.

And walking down Narrow Street last weekend, there were a several patches of broken glass on the pavement from car windows and one guy with a broken window just driving off. And then further down the street someone had vandalised a Mini Cooper S by pulling out the bonnet scoop.

Not at the stage where I am concerned about walking down the street or more importantly concerned about GF walking down the street on own but I don't reckon that it is far away. Think that the problem with Limehouse is the location - it's a really quiet area surrounded by busier areas. With the roving private security patrols in CW and the Police Station opposite Westferry and the marina and park, kids / thieves are almost funnelled into Limehouse

We are in the process of getting our building gated off - which in one way I feel a bit of regret about but I ain't going to risk my car / flat / GF for the sake of principles.

(Anyone actually ever seen a policeman walking down Narrow Street?)

Been up for a couple of pints anytime; just let me know when.......smile

Only place I ever see cops is patrolling around here / the wharf... and even then it's typically Wharf Security (mostly useless) or rent-a-bobbie PCSO's (daytime direction help for tourists)

I'd like to see bettermore aggressive security round here.. we obviously get alot of drunk people at night.. that's fine as they're invariably harmless.. it's more the drunk 'n' arguing chavs from the estates or gangs of roving kids screaming around which I'd like to see moved along.. but Wharf Security tend to walk in the opposite direction on seeing them..

Still, Gated gives invaluable peace of mind (and property!)

It's just a shame it's coming to this.. but invariably when you have such a cultural difference (between the wharf workers and the locals) you'll invariably see some resentment fueled crime.

I agree. I'm in Victoria Wharf and come chucking out time there are always screaming rows and fights which we can hear from the pubs.

The owner of the local shop has trouble with gans of chavs. The biggest laugh I had was a family of fatties going into the Narrow and demanding a table for twelve with twelve portions of chips.

hehe

Cheers Paul - Banhams have been round and fitted it all up today. Pricey but v happy with the results - if the little feckers try it again, think they will end up with a broken ankle wink

As an aside, we had a couple of BIB round yesterday to reassure missus about increasing presence etc as well as a direct mobile number to call through to for a quick response. To be fair, they often get a hard time but this has been dealt with promptly and appropriately thumbup

Hey it's London, you're never that far from a rat (be it vermin or the furry variety).

Most of what I've seen in wapping is just opportunist. The little oiks I chased out of my building while stealing bikes. The residents we stupid enough to buzz them in (or let them follow cars into the car park). I'm now a bike down, but at least they didn't touch the motor.

Basic rule of security is just to make yourself more secure than the next person. That way they move on to the easier targets.

I'm staying in Wapping. I still believe it's one of the safer areas of London.

After 3 years in Limehouse I moved to the bottom of the Isle of Dogs (close to Burrells Wharf). Nice community feel - all we need are some decent restos close by.

I have to say I feel safer down the bottom of the Island than I did in my last 6 months in Limehouse. Used to have the odd Thursday pink in "Links" bar on commerical road but heard there was a shooting there and it is now closed. Also heard of a few muggings around Limehouse.
