I know it's a long-shot, but I have an appointment at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in Queen Square, WC1N 3BG, 10.30am on a Monday morning in early April.

I'll be travelling from the north-west and haven't been to London for donkey's years. Can anybody advise on whether I can drive straight there and park ok, or should I be looking at leaving the car outside London and using public transport?

I can read a map and have a sat nav, if driving straight to the hospital is feasible. Any advice/ local knowledge would be much appreciated. Thanks, Diane

You can drive straight to the hospital and park as there are pay and display bays outside (plus the neurology hospital is adjacent to the Great Ormond street hospital so there is parking for that although again limited) but do fill up quite quickly (There is also the British Museum to contend with!!) and are pricey - ill check prices when passing this week as it always seems to change!! - and keep you posted . There is also an underground car park in Bloomsbury Square and an NCP Brunswick Square, you would have around a 5-10min walk from Bloomsbury and 5mins from brunswick which may be a better option.... and to add insult to injury on top of all this you have to pay our beloved mayor £8.00 conjestion charge redface( will have a peek @ situation regarding street parking and get back to you)

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the info. Much appreciated. We need to decide if we are driving down on the day or staying overnight on the Sunday and go in from there. Thanks for the help.

Cheers, Diane

Hi Diane,
Had a ride round by the hospital yesterday and the pay and display tarriffs are 40p for six minutes or £4.00 per hour and as i said previous several bays are suspended, to be honest considering your journey lengh plus the fact your trying to enter London on a monday morning (never good... but then again nor is any weekday!!) id travel down on the sunday and stay @ a local hotel and make a bit of a weekend of it, their are a couple right around the corner which have parking facilitys as well, and even if you dont stay there you can use the car park the tarriffs are : h2hrs-£3.80,3hrs-£5.50, 4hrs-£7.50, 6hrs-£10,10hrs-£12, 12hrs-£13, 14hrs-£14,24hrs-£16 id suggest www.imperialhotels.co.uk which is a group of hotels all around the area THE IMPERIAL (which is the parking tarrifs above) being the closest to the hospital but none of them are too far but i belive the Bedford has parking too .. have a look at their website to see the different hotels and also a good map of the local area.. hope all goes well

I totally agree with Propop's suggestion of staying overnight in London. There's just no guarantee that you'd make your appointment if you risk the drive in rush hour. Especially as you probably don't know any back doubles or rat runs and will be using the major roads.

As your appointment in 10.30 you would have to leave home at an ungodly hour to get down here if you come down on the Monday morning. It's just not worth the extra aggravation IMO.

You will still have to pay Uncle Ken's bloody congestion charge on the Monday but that's what we Londoners deserve when we let a Commie bd become mayor frown

I hope everything works out in a positive way for you at the hospital.

Elliott.
