Thought I'd road test the Wapping branch of said Thai chain with Mrs Curator on Saturday. Two courses, bottle of Austrian white, bottle of water, no coffee. And the bill? Almost hurled up my mixed started platter when I saw the resulting £126! Fuki Nell what a Pi Stake! It was quite nice but for that price in a Thai place I expect a different sort of service, a long list of extras and to be loved long time. You have been warned.

I think I said in another thread it was pricey. We tend to go tooled up and risk the south side here http://www.london-se1.co.uk/restaurants/info/216/s... It's not top class but the food is ok, and it's good value.

Wise words Phil. You could have a set lunch at Ramsay's place at Claridges for that. What's the damage at The Narrow these days?

I've never been to be honest. When we last walked past the menu outside wasn't bad at all. Assuming the mains come with veg etc it wouldn't cost the earth.

Amazing how the costs in places catch you though. The other night we had a single course in Lillys, one drink etc and some tea to finish. Great quality food, but £48 inc service charge? Hhmmm.

That's why Lily's always has expensive hardware parked outside. Somehow I don't object to the Lily's price-tag. Maybe the food is that bit better. Maybe it's those Polish waitresses...However I have noticed that even their expensive wines make my teeth go red. Any idea what's going to happen to Smollenski's - prime site I would have thought.

Not as prime as you'd think though. Not allowed tables outside and nothing to stop the oiks taking the piss out of the dinners. Rates must be interesting as well. And then there's the parking for a big restaurant.....

I don't know who the freeholder is. If it's the owners now (there's a lot of freeholds changing hands at the moment), maybe they don't want any restaurant there any more. Or Smollenski's was on a long lease that ties them in. Whatever, it is strange I'll grant you.

Oh and back on Suchards, DON'T have the Jungle Curry. I'm surprised it doesn't burn through the bottom of the bowl and end up at the Earths core, where it obviously came from.

ah, the jungle curry at suchards. always a good case for wearing asbestos under-crackers!

Actually it was quite nice Jamie - £27 as I recall. After the mixed platter, Mrs Curator had something with lobster in it, and I had something with steak in it. But £130?

smile so £100 ex wine... then lobster... and steak wink and the obligatory Service charge..

I'd say blame the Lobster and guilt MrsC a little wink

Still, the cost is secondary to the experience IMHO.. if you enjoyed yourself, then just move on... IF you didn't. then ever at £5 it wouldn't be good value!

Yeah I s'pose you're right. Mrs C was keen to compliment the decor, which looks quite costly, what with all those elephants and lilies. And the service - no Aussies here - was attentive and polite. Must try not to be such a Yorkshire tight-ar5e I guess.

I was in there again yesterday - starters, mains and drinks for 2 came to under £60 including service, and the food has been very good whenever I've been there.

Will make a note to avoid the lobster and steak in future hehe

Meh, you probably found someone to spoof with, then sneaked a peek at the coin and avoided another bill!
Cant recall the last time you paid for a meal you x-Ray visioned tart!

I thought the food was good, if a little pricey. However it was the cocktails that impressed. Very good and well priced for what you get. *slurp*
