Anyone know much about Seaton Delaval been offered a nice house there.
Seaton Delaval and Seghill both look really nice, but scarred by a mahoosive Land fill site, which has been in and out of the news:

http://www.journallive.co.uk/north-east-news/today...

"...Residents’ objections followed decades of exposure to smell, flies, vermin, traffic, litter and risk to health – the reasons why 200 people were said to be in the process of taking legal action against Sita..."

We were looking at a barn conversion in Seghill until realising beyond a line of trees was the above.

Sean, the landfill site is now full and is undergoing post closure works. So I wouldn't let it put me off, when they(SITA) carry out a tree planting schedule it will just look OK.

Well it was about 22 years ago when I left there, but I lived there for about 4 years.

I was always messing about with cars, and everybody in my street knew my car, (and being a small village, who I was !!)

Just strange that a number of us lived withing 50 yards radius, and we never crossed paths.

I used to spend 90% of my time in the Deuchars. I reckon I must have paid off the managers mortgage for him!

I was there 93-95 and had my red 87 Lotus Esprit as my main toy at the time.

Only negative I remember was blasting down the local country roads when some tw@ in a Granada came at me on my side of the road. To avoid him I jumped the kerb knocking my rear tyre off the rim.

Not Guilty Sir !! I never had a Granada...nono

I did have a lovely white RS Turbo Ford though. went like the clappers, and ate tyres. One of the best cars I have ever had.

I also had a classic car that I ran for a number of years. Looked similar to a Morgan : Racing green / red leather trim / Ma-Hoosive chrome headlamps / wire spoked wheels /Large side exit 'zorst / no roof !!

If you'd seen it, you'd have remembered it.

Never saw your Low-Tush, otherwise I'd have been knocking on your door to have a look at it !

Esprits...........Lovely beasts.

Only ever passed thro backworth but always thought of it as a nice place. Spent some of my younger days drinking in the blake at seghill...not quite as er...quaint but still fine. Nice cheap pint in the comrades!

I live in Whitley Bay which isn't too far from there, one of my best mates lives in Backworth. There are some nice houses a friend lives in one of the converted barn style houses and he never has any problems. Some of the council owned houses are a bit rough but mainly just kids smashing things really.

My friend (who lives in the council area) only ever had bother once when a kid smashed his window with a football. Oh and the mountaineering shop is pretty good, another friend works there so I would recommend it!!

Well I was there from 1987 to 1991. As you turned into claverly drive my house was bottom house on the right before you turne left into the rest of the street. My wife at the time had horses and often had one at the house, I was also always working of cars, butlt a Westfield and a caterham plus had a couple of trials bikes.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

Ive bought the house smile Cant wait to move in. Its on the same side of the road as the barn style houses, just a little further down and its overlookiyg the fields.

Thinking of getting a Honda HR-V for running about in to save the miles and short journies on the Z4 coupe. Anyone have any experience of them?

Thanks again

Have in-laws family around the area and looking at moving up from sussex in the next few months.

Seen plenty of houses on the net and viewed a few a couple of weeks ago and amazed to see 3-4 bed houses with no dining rooms or hall ways, only way to get to the kitchen was walking through the lounge

Seen a nice house in murrayfield that i want to view next week tho

Helped build the tippler at Backworth around 1971 with Tarmac, wonder if it's still there?
Went down Eccles Colliery there too back in the late 70's
The scrappy used to be a bit indifferent to be honest, always preferred "Burkies" but that is long gone - "There's one up there on the left son"

The scrappy is still there. I always preferred Shiremoor..long gone. Old Fenwick pit buildings are still all there. the old Backworth engine shop and tool sheds are still there and the field where the pit heads were have the capped shaft still exposed…
