It is distracting on what is a very busy part of town. You can be moving freely one minute and then it's stop/start the next. The last thing you need is a big bright sign to help take your eyes off the road for a split second.

So keep looking at the traffic?

What if an owl flew past you and distracted you? should we ban owls now?!!?

I'm not sure your contribuing to this much to this thread with your comments but distractions take many forms and can, on occasion, take your mind/eyes off the ball for a split second.

A loud bang or a nude woman walking along the pavement can cause a slight distraction, most people will react to it, even for a split second. I have driven that road many times and not killed myself to death by looking at sign BUT it's still a distraction.

Just because I don't agree I'm not contributing?

If you did that, they just wouldn't give a hoot anymore. Bloody typical 'modern day attitude'.rolleyes Its an outrage.

It's 11 to 1 so far. You can contribute as much as you like, it'll not change the fact that your in the minority.

Doesn't mean I'm wrong, maybe it means I'm just better than everyone else?

There seemed to be a fault with the advert on Swan House roundabout this week. I noticed on Tuesday and Wednesday night it was much, much brighter than it had been on Monday night, particularly when it was displaying the Glenfiddich advert with the white background. The glare was excessive, like it was set to a daylight intensity.

The straw man fallacy occurs in the following pattern of argument:

1.Person 1 asserts proposition X.
2.Person 2 argues against a false but superficially similar proposition Y, as if that were an argument against X.
This reasoning is a fallacy of relevance: it fails to address the proposition in question by misrepresenting the opposing position.

Have to agree with Muzzizzle on this one, I've seen it plenty from a passenger seat point of view and thought "That may be distracting". Actually drove down there the other day and didn't even notice it was there as I was watching the road and traffic around me. So I'd like to say, no, it's not that distracting, unless you like shiny things. As the letter said, there's plenty of roadside advertising around which don't get complaints.

Local authorities seem to ban small traders roadside signage everywhere they can. Yet they fix up massive illuminated signage at one of the NE's biggest accident black spots!!
As long as it makes money…..Perhaps we will see a reduction in our council tax bills and increase in public services!!

If you were reading your in car DVD when you crashed you would be prosecuted….Its ok to watch telly above a motorway underpass above a roundabout….

The world is a strange place these days . I wonder If I am the only one that harks back to a time where our streets were clear of signs, clutter, speed humps etc etc !!

Does technology help us anymore or are we merely becoming slaves to it….Perhaps the Ludites need resurrecting!

The other one which gets me is the junction created for the police station at the top of forth banks……I bet no other private planning application would have been approved…cynical you bet!

The Swan House roundabout is incredibly bright when showing adverts with a predominantly white background. I use this roundabout every evening and still find myself being distracted by it. Also, the sign over the motorway was recently showing an advert that included a large pair of spectacles with mesmeric patterns on the lenses. Designed in such a way that you would be drawn to stare at them. Who signs off these adverts in terms of appropriateness?
