Im thinking whilst some loonies will be well on there way to pneumonia in the boxing day dip, how about some of us do a drive out over the moors for the Air Ambulance? even if its a daft £2 each every penny counts for a good and useful cause.

Starting out at the Cross Keys at 9:00am on the outskirts of Guisborough we will make our way towards Helmsley via Great Ayton using the well known 'B1257' which has great views and sweeping bends stopping off for a group photo opportunity at Chop Gate along the way.

After arriving at Helmsley Square we shall head up to the top of the moors driving along the scenic Blakey Ridge road, stopping off at the Lion Inn before heading back to the 'Cross Keys' in Guisborough to finish.

This is going to be a nice chilled drive out, just enjoying the sights and sounds, so it doesn’t matter if you have a 1.0 Lupo or a fire breathing V8, the convoy will all be travelling at the same pace so this gives you a chance to embrace and enjoy what you have.

The exact route is as follows:

Meet at 9:00 am

Start:

-Cross Keys, Middlesbrough Road, Guisborough, TS14 6RW.

-A173 Past Roseberry Topping to Great Ayton then onto Stokesley.

-At Stokesley roundabout turn Left onto the B1257 sign posted Helmsley.

-Then we will continue on the B1257 to Helmsley Square.

-From Helmsley Square will we head on the A170 following the turnoff for Castleton which will lead us onto the Blakey Ridge road which takes us to the highest point of the North Yorkshire Moors in which we will stop off at ‘The Lion Inn’

-From there we will carry forward to Castleton in which we will turn Left onto Station Road (Smeathorns Road) leading us to the main Moor Road following this back to our starting point which is the Cross Keys, Guisborough.

Craig's trying to persuade me to go and fetch CSL or RS out of storage. Will there be sausage and bacon available on route?

Hi PH members et al.

This part of the world is one of my many frequent drives. Family commitments over the festive period prevent me from attending this one but come the spring and summer, I'll be with you.

Have a great drive and watch out for the sheep around Helmsley, Hutton-le-hole, Blakey Ridge etc.

Joe
