as the title, have a little time in the next few weeks and as
I have been trying to set up a new website for my business for the last 18 months wihtout success usually due to other commitments I thought I would ask for recommendations on here.
I have had a couple of mock ups done so far, all disappointing, but they have just been ready made pages that someone has attempted to place my company logo over - rather unsuccessfully and usually changed the colours of it in doing so for some as yet unexplained reason.
After learning from the mistakes of my previous website I want full rights over the finished site with access to update it and have access to the servers. Not being stung again when a webdesigner hosting his own sites decides to pack up shop and disappear!

I aready own 2 or 3 domian names for my business but do not have a current business only email address set up.
The delay in setting up the new website is having a slightly detrimental effect on my business as I am still using my old business cards with an out of date trading name and web address etc. I want the web address and email set up before I get updated stationary printed up.

thanks in advance for any recommendations!

Stick the job up on freelancers.com, you'll get countless offers from designers for not a lot of money. If you want the ability to make changes yourself ask for it to be done in WordPress or similar.

PM me if you want to discuss further, more than happy to help.

Try jackdawwebdesign.co.uk.

They always hand all rights over to the client and give full access to the control panel. They set the site up for you, in discussion with you, and will train you so that you can then keep the content up to date yourself. Try these links for further information:
http://jackdawwebdesign.co.uk/your-business-your-w... and http://jackdawwebdesign.co.uk/web-hosting-and-web-...

They do most of their work in Wordpress.

well, thanks for the replies..........

checkout that website and also put it up for tender on Freelancer......
had loads of bids to do it on freelancer - huge variation in prices, and I am a little unsure how to make a decision on who to choose - the majority seem to be Asian based.
Also unsure on the payment process and how much access to my online business/site I would have to give to someone from the other side of the globe I have never met. Already had a few sample mock up pages done as I have already said and was less than impressed with them....certainly wouldnt have paid for them.

Have you tried doing it yourself? Its easier than you think. wix, 1and1internet, plenty of others out there. They all make it very simple. Although depends on how detailed/complex you want it.

Alternatively check out http://www.absolute-agency.co.uk/ They are really good. And most importantly, honest!

I also know a couple of local guys that can do you a decent site for you, and you retain ownership. I'll dig their details out for you.

If you do hire someone, make sure you see their previous work.

well, just a quick update, I thought I would give freelancers a go.
Signed up, posted a project got 100 quotes, picked one of the top 3, transferred funds to Freelancers site.... awarded the project, then the guy starts asking for access to the domains etc before he has accepted the project??
So I try The sites "LIVE" help line chat service only to find that there is no such thing and the tab simply sends you in a loop around multiple frequently asked questions........
not impressed so far..

Now requested a refund from Freelancers as its been a day since they took funds from my account and funnily enough a day without being able to contact them via email and their LIVE chat service doesnt work ...... absolutely shocking service from what seemed like a very large service provider......if this is the way they start I dont want to go any further and wish I had found out before uploading money to them... will do a chargeback on my VISA within the next week if not sorted.

thought I would report back....

finally have a site done,by webdesigner through freelancers - webdesigner was easy to deal with... freelancers site was a nightmare at first if I am honest, but they finally got back to me after 48 hours!! The tab on their website pages for online support were actually old links which no longer worked and should have been removed...as they told me when I finally spoke to someone, which is hard to believe from a site providing work for freelance webdesigners..

Anyway, site completed fine and paid for..hopefully without issue...

BUT....

I now have an issue with GODADDY and their webmail which is part of the hosting package.
I set it all up and it just simply doesnt work, no one can email me as everyones emails just get bounced back.
On checking this on google it seems to be a major issue with most users of godaddy,
but for me it makes the whole hosting package pointless and if the webmail part of the package wont allow customers to email me directly via a business email address then I may as welll get the site hosted/packaged elsewhere.

anyone one here had issues with Godaddy webmail as part of their hosting package?
