the weather looks interesting - Long range forcasts (inaccurate as drawing a spider with knees) are saying snow in Newcastle, never mind on the North York moors

I heard that there were drifts 10 feet deep at the Lion Inn on Monday...

So what do they have, if not knees?

My wife is playing a concert at Botton on Sunday too, she's a bit worried about the snow up there. The guy at the Lion was snowed in for a week apparently, alone.
BTW, rode part of the route yesterday on me bike, which I use most days, , I was up to the eyeballs with farm muck and grit. not sure if I can put the car through it

Folks I'm going to venture up onto these roads Friday afternoon to see whether there are any problems.

Keep an eye on this thread just in case we need a change of plan. I'll post a roads report Friday PM.

It's a bit rough up on those moors

The Cobweb Run is on.

The planned route is a non-starter though. I am frantically sorting out an alternative and will get directions to you all when we meet. It's a shame that we won't be tackling the list of unclassified roads I had planned but having just driven them in a 4x4 I promise you, you don't want to drive your P&J's on them.

See you all in the lay-by, Teesside Airport. We'll set off as planned at 11:30.

For those of you who have seen the route from the Airport to Helmsley, throw it away, I'm taking a simpler route, the farm tracks are disgusting.

If you're meeting us at Helmsley, we'll leave there as planned, at 14:00.

I'll be giving it a miss.

Why not postpone till next weekend Bob - the weather is meant to be significantly better next week (temperatures in the double figures apparerntly)

true, but it was more the fact that Bob is now changing the route since the roads are covered in crap et al.

I can't make it more due to work load more than the weather either way

Stefan the weather is forecast to be OK on Sunday. I can't postpone, there are 30 cars coming from all over the country, too late to make big changes. I'll just have to make it work. Chances are, even if I did postpone, you would likely not be able to make the new date either, what with uni work etc.

I have near 16 hours driving invested in this now with all the changes. There's then the route setting and scripting the directions, twice. To do something like this from scratch is a big investment. Suggesting further changes is easy to say; making it happen is quite a different thing.

Forecast looks good tomorrow anyhow

I think Bob means the one on the south side of the A67, just off the road. Correct me if I'm wrong but it lies about the point marked 'LC' on map.

not at all, changing from one weekend to another is an entirely different thing to say cancelling an event altogether because of the weather. I seem remember proviso's have been put on events in the past where the weather would be dubious - why is this any different?

And maybe I wasn't thinking of myself - but of "your" event, surely it would be more enjoyable for everyone involved to drive in pleasant weather on the original route planned rather than a re-hash'd route that might not be as fun.

By who am I to say anything, I'm not coming am I
