Hi all, new to the Forum. I need to get some new bearings in my front hubs for a kit car project. Does any one know of good local garages that are willing to do odd jobs like this. Also anywhere do shotblasting of car bits on old Fords??

I'm based in Forest Hall, Newcastle.

Cheers,
Malc

I don't know what the garages are like up that neck of the woods, but I'm curious as to what your kit-car is?

What car are the bearings from, you should be able to pick up a bearing kit for about £15* and it doesn't take that long to fit them yourself. I'd imagine if you've built/bought a kit-car, you must be pretty handy with the spanners?

* Unless you have something like a hub from a Grand Cherokee where you have to buy the whole hub assembly for about £250

I'd like to know about your project also - is it going to be a seven-type car or something different?

Hi, I'm going to build a Pilgrim Sumo using a Ford Granada/Scorpio as the donor and will be installing a 3.5 l RV8 engine.

Crown Garages, Fern Avenue in Jesmond gets my vote. Very "old skool" garage but great for oddjobs. Graham, the guy that runs the place, did loads of work on both my Westfields and seems very honest and down to earth.

For Shotblasting I've used a place called Chromex in Wallsend who were cheap and did a good job.

That place looks a bit...well, not somewhere I'd take my car. I did use Torque Garage in Forest Hall (just behind Barclays bank) although they royally fcensoredked up a tyre repair and were then unbelievably unhelpful in getting it sorted out furious Can't say more on here really...

I'm currently looking for a decent local garage as well to get a couple of things sorted out at.

ETA: You in FH as well? I'm very near by yet never seem to see interesting cars round here, don't think I've ever seen an S2 driving around

I'd speak to David at West Moor garage, on the George Stephenson Ind Est. Those boys look after literally hundreds of cars a year for me, and they'll be giving the Wee Beastie a once over in the New Year (if it's not sold!).

some of us disagree with you about that garage and the "knowledgeable chaps" that run it Tom.

I'm not entering into a discussion about Jude Performance Services on PH, but I, like you, speak as I find and unfortunately I will never suggest that anyone takes their car to that garage.

Other peoples opinion vary and they are entitled to them - you all know mine and can look at my website / past posts about my old car on PH to see why I hold the feelings I do.

Got to be careful about giving these opinions on PH but do think twice about Jude Performance Services. If you need to know why then speak with Docevi1 or me off line.

There are serious issues at play here.

I have over 300 happy customers from all over the North of England and Scotland, and one unhappy one that has never actually raised the issue face to face with me.

One thing I have learned from the incident is I will now refuse to work on dangerously built or prepared cars that should not be on the road.

I think you should know better Bob as you have never even been to Jude Performance Services and are not in any position to comment.

At the end of the day, if anyone speaks to any of my customers (apart from one) they will get a true representation of the quality of work and service given. There's a reason why people are prepared to travel up to 5 hours to get their cars serviced by Jude Performance Services.

I am not going to get involved in any debate on this or any other forum. It is up to each individual to take in the facts and make their choice.

Don't tell me what to do Dan. You and I both know this goes deeper than one misunderstanding

I can truthfully recommend Dan at Jude Performance Services and will be placing a substantial amount of work his way in the New Year. He has faultlessly looked after my car and lots of other peoples that I personally know. I would suggest you pay him a visit and either take down your job or talk to him about your requirements.

I have no knowledge of what is been discussed above and therefore cannot comment - I am just purely stating my personal happy experiences of dealing with Jude.
