bloody hell I was expecting to see a pinto under the bonnet !
I can only imagine that they have somehow used the standard bike manifold and modified it ? Ive had a succession of bike engined cars and thats the first time Ive seen that, I would imagine with that set up it will be restrictive ?
ref the oil surge make sure you have a good gauge fitted I preferred the mechanical type and I always fitted an idiot light (led light in my race car) for track use connected to a 20psi pressure switch so if you are getting surge you will be blinded and you can de clutch before its too late, as it doesnt take a lot at 11,000rpm to scuttle a motor my first westy had a ZX12 motor fitted with a Z cars baffled sump and that was ok on standard tyres but once i fitted 888 toyos it would surge on the road under braking and hard cornering.
I would also recommend an oil temp gauge to monitor oil temps, I had endless trouble with overheating till I fitted a big cooling system.
again sorry if im teaching granny how to suck eggs!
if you get bored have a read of my trails and tribulations of running a BEC at my website! http://www.jcoopercars.co.uk/westfields.htm

(1550cc Busa with trickshifter on road tyres at Oulton park )

Ouch, as my father used to say of in his bike racing days "it's put a leg out of bed". Did you establish the root cause? (1550cc Busa with trickshifter on road tyres at Oulton park )

At least it died in a blaze of Radical (or similar) thrashing glory - could have been worse, you could have collected smashed the car and the engine.
Out of interest is the 1550 a stroker kit, a re-bore, or both?
The motor was built by Extreme engines 1550cc full race spec circa 250bhp same motor as fitted to the powertec radicals, its bored 50cc and stroked 200cc, It had done around 18 hours running when it let go , it was advised rebuild time of 17hours
when I stripped the motor it had indeed put a leg out of bed, the cause was a faulty set of pistons which when i researched was not uncommon the remaining 3 had hair line cracks around the conrod pins. was quite lively whilst it was going though!

It did look a proper little rocket ship, as you say.
Was that it for BECs then?
Out of interest, didn't you have a flip paint Busa a few years ago?
after the Busa went bang, I got it rebuilt did a race in it then sold it, I bought a 300bhp Duratec Caterham race car, was a fair bit quicker than the 1550 busa and was more reliable!
not sure on pressure on R1 but a busa would drop to a scarey 5psi when hot on idle!
before I upgraded the cooling system Ive had oil temps as high as 140degrees!!! but found on a Busa the clutch would drag and gear changes were notchy anything over 120degs . my pal blew his crank out of a busa and when checked it had been up at 150degrees !
on my later busas I run a huge 32 row cooler in front of the radiator, with that I could run 25mins driving flat out on a scorching hot day and had no issues with cooling, pretty sure I could keep them around 100 degrees, sorting out the oil temps also kept the water temps low too.

if you rewind 4 years and look on the very first post on page 1 you can see what your car would look like with the 19" coupe wheels ,I prefer the looks and they are much easier to clean! I towed with mine and mpg isnt brilliant, think with BJames shuttle and westfield in I used to get around 26mpg was pretty much the same as what swmbo got around town driving.. Ps if you do nothing else you must get it remapped the difference is staggering !I had mine done with a stage 3 map and it was something like 358bhp and the torque was crazy , It was as fast on a rolling start as a V8 Rs4 up to 160mph on a private road can put you in touch with the guy that did mine.
great car I still think its the best allrounder ive ever owned!

Christ, you must be on the phone to your insurance, a lot! hahah, some choice motors in your car history!
Size wise how are you finding the S3, I have a 7 & 3 year old, would they fit?
S3 / A3 Sportback is bigger than A4 and 3 series, our kids are 9 / 14 and 16 (6ft 2) and have no bother they have plenty of room. :-)
